I am a grey hair and have to agree crowd has been weaker this year than last.
I thought maybe because we were focused on football till recently.
We are not bad..... and solid when close and exciting but this year has been weak efforts.
The six o’clock games are hard cause half the crowd gets in right at tip off or a little later so maybe not enough pre game time to start getting pumped up
Of course an 11 am game Saturday will not help.... but I will be there

I was at LSU I. The late 80s/early 90s. Our student section was across from the players — we had a TON of seating, like multiple sections at lower and upper levels. We had to line up early to get a seat.
Newspapers were thrown after the opppnents line up was announced — other times things were thrown k to the court and Daddy Dale would get the mic and say “do not throw things onto the court”.
Fun times — one game we even played against Russia. Wish I had kept the “LSU vs Russia” shirt that students got.
Chris Jackson and Shaq days. Ricky Blanton as well.

I was watching the Texas tech games the past couple nights, I want us to be that. They’re just constantly producing noise, it’s deafening. Then with the swagsurfing the entire crowd goes back and forth like we do for football and it looks sick

Move the students behind the basket and as far away from the action as possible and this is the end result. Students should have the first 5 rows around the entire court
Why hasn’t Scott W fixed this?

I think the layout of the PMAC has a lot to do with it. Right now, the seats are literally 10-15ft away from the court. Hell, I bet they are 20ft away behind the goals. IMO, we need a revamp of the PMAC or build something new. They need a gym that puts the fans right on top of the court and reduce the size.
Also, the culture of LSU basketball revolves around a casual sports fan. It’s been a longggg time since we have had a basketball team be great for several seasons consecutively. Currently, most LSU basketball fans see the game as just something to do during the week or on the weekend. There isn’t any intensity or caring brought to the game. The casual fan just says, “oh it’s basketball, football will be here soon”. To where, everyone expects LSU football to win and compete on a national level. Go watch Duke football, they tailgate and cheer in a football game how we do in a basketball game. Then watch a Duke basketball game, they cheer just like LSU football fans do for an SEC home game. It’s all about the culture, Wade is slowly flipping the script. We need to give the man what he wants.

I also think this has a lot to do with the school's marketing of the program. Since the beginning of the football season, you couldnt go on any social media site or drive down any road around BR without seeing something LSU football related (and rightfully so) whereas with basketball if you dont follow the team somewhat closely you most likely didnt even know they had a game tn and may not even know how good they are. The program has grown to an elite level and it's time that both the fans and the school start treating it as such

No way! Students barely show up as is. I don't believe if it wasn't for the free meal 50% would show up at all. Our student section is a complete disgrace. Until they can bring more energy they stay where they are.

What about the other 8,000 people that sit there in silence?

In what college arena have you seen non-students being the ones to bring the noise? I haven't seen it. Every time I watch a game on TV other schools students are bringing it. Ours do sometimes, but most of the time lack energy.
The rest of the crowd feeds off of the students energy. If they're quiet, the rest of the place follows suit.

Most of the regulars in our crowd are 50+ years old and have no desire to cheer loud or make noise unless a big play or big run occurs. If I was a player or coach, it would piss me off. I'm not sure what needs to be done. They already sell beer at the games so that's not the problem. The arena seating is bad, but it was bad 30 years ago when the roof would damn near explode.

Agreed. PMAC just hasn't been an intimidating place to play for opponents in a while, resulting in not much of a home court advantage. It's sad. Hoping that more winning seasons by Wade can help change the culture to fans being crazy about football and basketball.

Ok and what schools have you seen that have crazy student sections that are as far away from the action as LSU's? Make the students feel as if they are part of the game and I promise they will get wild and the crowd will follow suit

The hard truth is that our fans suck when they haven’t tailgated and are drunk. We need to create a culture of tailgating before games or some way to get hammered before they go into the Pmac. Otherwise I guess it’s perceived as embarrassing to get loud when everyone is sober
Nail on the head. We have the best fans in the world only when Whiskey is involved. The only way to motivate a coon arse is either alcohol or crawfish

Surely there's something Woody can do to attempt to improve this situation. That's probably why the boys are better on the road, b/c the PMAC barely creates a homecourt advantage. It's getting better, but still a long way to go.

Listening to it on tv they might as well been playing on a neutral floor. Sounded like a library most of the game- frankly embarrassing for a team of this quality.

Things like this also help with recruiting. Think about all the players, both basketball and football, that have gone to big home football games where the crowd was electric and they say that swayed their decision. The same can be done at basketball games for basketball players.
Players want to play at places where they feel supported. The way this crowd is at times is embarrassing for how good this team has been the past few years.
