If I were Doughty, I would tell him to kiss my arse. Crews, Morgan, Dugas, and Doughty have all played well overall. You can pick everyone else apart any way you choose but those 4 have had way more ups than downs.

What a joke the kid has the 2nd highest average on the team of anyone that has north of 10 ABs.

I mean hell when he is at the plate at least you think something good might happen....can't really say the same for guys like Thompson, Cranford, Safford, Bianco, etc.

ETA He easily leads the team in RBIs...the only one close is Dugas with 31.

ETA2 He's right on Beloso though.

everything else ell quoted was a joke, but there's nothing wrong with how he addressed the passing of CH's son.

I was called a queer for saying that in that instance it wasn’t coaching it was players needing to make plays.
And rightfully so. Beloso shouldn’t have been in the game.

Yeah, Boat took that the wrong way. The perspective was Jaden’s and in regards to how he’s handling the injury.

It was the same when he was on his show several days ago. He takes no responsibility. He acts and sounds like kicked dog. He is tired and it shows. He needs to step down. His mismanagement of pitchers and lineups has always been his achilles heel. Now his lack of there of is catching up with him this year with a young team with no real leadership.

Right, and even if it wasn't about Jaden and him being related, etc., had Mainieri said something like, "seeing a former Tiger great lose his son at such a young age really puts things in perspective for a lot of us," there would be nothing wrong with that either. Sometimes I think we struggle on here when a coach is at the end of his rope to separate them as coaches and them as human beings. Mainieri is a father and a grandfather at the end of the day, and I do think it's fine to talk about things like that from the perspective of a father a grandfather and it not have to be perceived as some sort of excuse for his short-comings as a baseball coach.

Leadership is something that hasn't been spoken about enough. Guys that could have been leaders coming into the season just haven't been there (in more ways than one).

Gio - injured
Beloso - horrible season
Milazzo - horrible season
Fontenot - rough start, also hard to lead as a pitcher
Beck - injured
George - welp
Vietmeier - welp

Dugas seems to be taking a leadership role, which is great. But, we need Gio back, for Beloso to get going, and for one of the young guys (Crews, Morgan, and/or Doughty) to put their foot down.

Doughty hasn’t been great in SEC. He has 1 XBH in 9g.

Basically a microcosm of the whole lineup who led the nation in HRs by hitting belt high 87mph fastballs out the park, and now can’t hit SEC pitching

After listening to the same BS every week I can tell you CPM ain't going nowhere unless he's forced to. He doesn't think he's doing a dang thing wrong and will continue to make excuses. SW is going to have to can him and should quickly.

It's kind of baffling to me how much worse they look in SEC games. I'm not even sure it's all due to the quality of a hitting coach. I think a lot of it is mental. We have far too many kids who have seen the caliber of pitching they're seeing in travel ball and summer leagues to not look as outmatched as they have in league play. We're barely hitting .200 as a team in league play, good enough for last in the SEC. With the talent on this roster, young and inexperienced or not, that goes deeper than just a hitting coach.

I think that's what's going on here. This team needs Beloso and Doughty and they aren't playing up to their potential. Obviously, this is an attempt to get a fire lit under them...even at the expense of their relationship. In short, it's desperation by Mainieri. He's calling them out.

Someone needs to tell Paul he's getting paid millions of dollars to run the program and take bullets publicly for his guys when things are bad.

I know it's nothing new but it's bullshite when he gets in front of the mic and passes the buck onto specific guys. We all know when guys don't perform, how about you tell us how you're going to fix things. It's what you're getting paid to do.

I think him going after Doughty might be his way of trying to motivate him. Obviously Cade is one of our best players but hasn’t been great in SEC play, granted no one else has either. I think after Tuesday’s game PM said him moving Cade down in the lineup was his way of challenging him. Cade had a great game so this might be his way of doing something like that again

Yes but with hitting being unreliable across the whole lineup wouldn’t you want to have the best defensive catcher in the game?

Yes, if I thought I was playing a running team and I was planning on throwing a lot of balls in the dirt.

But you have to weigh all of your options and decide on your lineup.
If you are going defense in CF, second base and at catcher then you’ve weakened your batting order 33%. Adding a weak link at DH with a weak link batting second adds to the problem.

I still think he's going to retire at the end of the season, whether that be on his own or highly encouraged by the powers at LSU. I think he has too much pride to force LSU to outright fire him.

I don't give a shite.....it is incredibly stupid to call out one of your leaders in offensive production because he "can't hit". Exactly how does that help the player or the team. I mean clearly you aren't going to bench your #1 run producer on the team. It is just incredibly dumb and yet another sign that Maineri has gone from a mediocre baseball coach to a piss poor baseball coach in a matter of a couple of years.

Now calling out Beloso I'm clearly OK with......he was being counted on to hit better this year...he hasn't.

ETA Now if you want to take Doughty aside in the cage and offer him some coaching on how he could get better against good pitching that's one thing. A) Our coaches obviously aren't skilled enough or qualified to do that (Maineri certainly isn't) and B) Never call out one of your best players in the media.

ETA2 So I checked out the SEC stats and sure Doughty is down on average. He's 2nd on the team in OB% behind Morgan and has the 3rd most RBIs in SEC play. It's also poignant to point out we've face 5 of the top 15 ERA guys in the league including the top 2 both under 0.9 and 4 of the top K guys in the league.

Makes sense
I was mainly thinking of catcher position
Rest of line up needs to focus on offense
