Endorsement deals go to top players. Our girls are top players…in college. Only 15 of the 36 picks from the 2023 WNBA Draft even made rosters to start the season. Heck, the #1 draft pick in 2021 was out of the league in 2022.

Jumping to WNBA is not a sure thing. It may be the biggest roll of the dice of all the pro leagues.

Angel is graduating this year. She is a senior with extra year for covid. Seems like I heard Angel say in an interview she was pursuing Communications and was interested in sports reporting. She shadowed Holly Rowe couple of times. She also said she was interested in modeling/fashion. She may not pursue WNBA if she is not top 10 pick. Can't say I blame her if she pursues her non-basketball goals. I guess we will find out in the spring.

It’s not crazy to say their best options may be to play college as long as possible, take advantage of NIL to brand build, then quit bb altogether.

People throw the term NIL around like it means the same thing in every context and just evaporates when a player leaves college. Most of the endorsements for Reese and Van Lith come from national brands. Those deals don’t just go away if they go to the WNBA. Women’s college basketball provides greater exposure only in very limited bursts at tournament time and for games like SC coming up. That exposure is worth something, but it’s not the primary driver of their endorsements. Playing specifically for LSU definitely isn’t the driver apart from the expectation of greater exposure than most programs.

Many of the first round picks won’t even make a team.

Oh my god, I can tell many of you literally do NOT follow the WNBA even remotely. College kids DO NOT EARN SALARIES. So, that point alone makes it impossible to "earn" more money in college. What Angel, Flau'je and Hailey have are NIL deals which are ENDORSEMENT DEALS, they are not SALARIES. Guess what...................WNBA players also have endorsements. The player you named, Breanna Stewart earns a WNBA salary around $250K, an overseas team salary of $1.5 million, and currently has an endorsement deal with Puma with undisclosed terms. However, her current net worth is at $10million, which is almost EIGHT TIMES more than what Angel is earning in college. So, again, for stars like Angel, and the like, it makes NO SENSE to play one more year in college and put off making REAL money.

Dude are you high?

Money is money. Who gives a crap if it’s salary or endorsement? And who the hell wants to play ball in Europe? She plays in Turkey that might as well be the Middle East.

And you’re wrong anyway. Stewarts net worth is somewhere between 5-6 mil. And that’s after 7 years as a pro where she has to spend summers in Turkey. Angels net worth is 1.5 mil after 1 season at LSU.

Breanna has a Puma deal. Angel has a Reebok deal. So what.

And I’m comparing a multiple WNBA Finals winner and MVP…….. to a college player.

Angel and Hayley have no guarantee they’ll be that successful on the court. Hell there are only 5 or so players at that level. And she making comparable money or more right now. (Without having to go to Turkey for four months a year)

Who doesnt know anything about the WNBA?

I’m not saying they won’t give it a try.

But it’s not crazy to say that it is highly possible that Angel and Hayley’s futures lie in maxing out their college NIL, then a short WnBA time (possibly not even a full season, which is the norm for most draft picks), and then moving to modeling or fashion and that Flaujae’s has the same path but to music.
You don’t need a team to be an influencer anymore. Dunne came to LSU already there.

Top ten draft picks make about $70,000 their first year. Have no idea whether endorsements will follow them to the WNBA. If they hate academics and just want to play basketball then they will probably go.

No, Hailey graduated early at Louisville after 3 years with 3.87 GPA. This is her 4th year at LSU. She has one additional year for covid next year, if she chooses to use it.

You STILL are having a hard time comprehending logic.

It doesn't make sense for a player to come back to play ONE MORE SEASON in college, to make LESS money, than they can make in their first year as a pro. And no, Stewart's net worth IS indeed near $10 million. Additionally, Candace Parker has around $5 million in endorsement deals which is three times as high as Reese's. Again, let's stop with the false narrative that a kid should stay one more year in college to make a little bit of money, when they can make REAL money the first year they graduate. Angel or any other college star (Caitlin Clark, Flau'je, etc) is not going to lose their endorsements the minute they graduate. They will carry those into their rookie seasons, AND make the extra money in the pros. This isn't hard to understand.

They are GUARANTEED to make the LSU team next year and likely expand their NIL. Using rough numbers…
Make the college team = 100%
College NIL = ~$1.5M
1.000*1.5M= $1.5M minimum

They are NOT guaranteed to make a WNBA roster if drafted. Also, they may pick up an extra $1M endorsement as a rookie until they prove they’ll be around.

Make WNBA team as draft pick = 42% (rate for previous draft)
WNBA rookie salary = $70K
Pro endorsements for rookie = ~$2.5M
0.420*2.57M= ~$1.08M
Could make $2.5M; could lose a year of earnings.

With pro women’s basketball, you take the bird in the hand.

If Angel is drafted in the top ten picks (she's currently projected at #7 or #8, depending on the service), her chances of making the team are WAY higher than 42%

Again, you CANNOT leave out the money they make overseas and make this argument. It HAS to be factored in. Otherwise the discussion is moot.

Agree, if Angel is not drafted in top 10, she has her sights set on either sports broadcasting or her love of modeling/fashion. Hopefully, she'll be 1st round draft pick, she has earned it. I personally think she will do fine in WNBA, at least for year or two. She will attract large numbers of fans to fill seats everywhere she goes.

Why use the one from September?

Here’s the current one:
Projected top 10 - from Jan ‘24

Posted the first mock that popped up on google.

Regardless, Reese is, for the most part, top ten in all current mocks and Hailey is just outside in many.

His premise that neither are top ten is incorrect.

Hailey is not going to make the WNBA as of now.

Angel has a shot at making a squad. The questions for Angel are: (1) will an extra year at LSU in 24-25 add to her value as a player and as a "rock star." and (2) is she tired of being a student and ready to get on with her life, in WNBA and/or in modeling.

Reese will be a very undersized post player with limited range in the WNBA. She is great at attacking the glass in college against undersized opponents and gets the bulk of her points from very close in.

The extra year at LSU would not be based on financials for the most part. It should be to develop a game that would help her stick once drafted.

Van Lith recognized she needed to improve so she came to LSU to develop her game. I don’t think Angel lasts unless she develops the ability to play from farther out.

So weird. When they do choose to move on, we’ll never see or hear from them again.
