I get what this is, but the methodology is simple and leads to stupid results.

quote:

Take all the AP final rankings and use our simple scoring system – the AP national champion in each season gets 25 points, the No. 2 team 24, No. 3 23, and so on down to the bottom.

Championships should be weighted. Conference and national.

Penn state, who is ranked above LSU, has 2 national titles. LSU has 5. They have 4 conference titles, we have 12. Over their program history, they average 6.96 wins per season; LSU averages 6.81. So Penn State is ranked ahead of LSU, despite having less than half as many titles, 1/3 as many conference titles, but a whopping .15 more wins per season.

Has Florida had any success outside of Spurrier and Meyer?

They have 4 conference titles, we have 12

You realize they didn’t join a conference until 1992 or 93. Were independent fon100 years.
I have no problem with the list. Can throw 9-11 in a blender and see what comes out first. The 90’s killed LSU’s ranking in this poll, but we can’t forget them. I know, I was in school during them

If I was from Washington, I'd be pretty mad.

i get where you’re going, but being independent was a lot more common back then, and Pedo State wasn’t even in a conference for over 100 of those years.

After the upcoming wave of realignment is complete (Oklahoma and Texas to the SEC, USC and UCLA to the Big 10), the SEC will have 11 of the top 25 all-time programs and the Big 10 will have 9. All other conferences combined will have 5. That's a pretty amazing consolidation of power. I don't think that kind of power concentration in two mega-conferences will be good for the sport, but it's definitely happening.

No, I didn't realize they were independent that long.

My issue is claiming that this ranks programs - if it does, the ranking is flawed. This is basically a composite of the ranking of each team. Not what I would call a "true" program rank.

You follow Penn State lately? They won the Rose Bowl and will be top 5 preseason.

Have the best RB in the country who was a true freshman

Tenn and Penn State lol. What have then done in the last 25 years? This is stupid

if you weight 100 yers ago equal to today then it makes sense. If yiu rate recent success higher then LSU is above the Vols and Penn State.

You all realize this is based on all-time AP voting right? =)

Then the title of the article is misleading. It should be “Top 25 all-time AP poll programs” and not all-time top 25

You have to remember that before Schnellenberger won the NC in 1983, Miami was a total zero of a program for most of its history. I think they were seriously considering dropping football before he arrived in 1979. The AP poll goes back decades before that, during which time I suspect Miami was NEVER in the poll. So their placement at 16 reflects the fact that they were so good in the 90s and 00s. Absent those two decades, Miami would be near the bottom of the list.

To clarify, PSU hasn't been in a conference that long. Not saying we shouldn't be ahead of them. We should.

It's a historical perspective. Seasons from decades ago are being counted in the mix. That seems to get lost here. Folks that didn't witness it first-hand tend to think the rankings are skewed. I think they're pretty solid.

Miami won titles in '83, '87, '89, '91, and '01.

They ostensibly played for natty's in '85, '86, '92, '94 (?), and '02.

We pretty much ended their run in '05. Warren Morris played a role as well.
