Yes for that player. Lots of athletes repeat 8th grade for sports growth and are 19 entering college. So they would be 23 against 22 yr olds

He actually said “name on the front of my jersey not the name on the back”. But the sentiment is the same.

They’re trying to keep college players that are great college players, but not great NFL players around longer to improve the quality of the product on the field to compete with the NFL. This will also increase depth across schools.

I still remember the hargrave Prep school model where Kirkland Williams or Bobbie Massie COULD HAVE:

-Been held back in kinderdgarten,
-Maybe failed a year.
-Graduate HS as an 18 and or 19 year old.
- go to hargrave or fork union in VA.
- go to college as a 20 or 21 year old
- redshirt
-be full grown by the time they were a 25 year old junior.

Him and Corey Webster are the godfathers of DBU. Travis Daniels post here btw. He may see all our comments. So much respect for him and that attitude is from a bygone era. Great player.

It's 5 for 5 without saying it

I have been saying this for a while, Go to 5 for 5 but make it a hard 5 for 5. You have 5 years to get your shite done. Period. You don't get an extra year if you get hurt. You don't get an extra year if your nanna dies. You don't get an extra year because you took a mental health break. You don't get an extra year because you are trying to break TJ Finley's record for number of schools attended. And you don't get extra year(s) because you attended a JUCO.

The clock starts ticking once you enroll in anything that has the word "college" or "university" in it and the clock runs out after 5 years and you get on with your life. I don't need to see the Finley's and Max Johnson's of the world chasing whatever it is that they are chasing at age 25-27 because the NCAA is afraid of another lawsuit.

Live look at TJ's new academic counselor at Incarnate Word as he sees TJ's degree audit for the first time:

There’s a reason Saban drafted him to the dolphins.

This is actually another blow to high school recruits. Increases the amount of portal options and further diminishes wanting raw talent out of high school. So more high school kids will go to smaller schools and trickle up.

College football is basically developing ITS OWN minor league system between HS and college.

I watched a CFP semi-final game played on a Thursday. Apparently, CFB is the NFL’s bitch.

Why are we creating a system where 18 year olds need to compete with 23 year olds. Pretty ridiculous.

agreed! The good teams are loaded with older, more experienced guys....having a team of 23 year olds in college is almost like the NFL...

The average age of the Indiana Hoosiers football team is notably high for college football, with recent reports placing the average roster age around 22.5 to 23 years old, significantly older than typical teams due to a reliance on experienced, older players and transfers. This maturity, with many starters in their fourth, fifth, or even sixth years, is a key factor in their recent success under Coach Curt Cignetti.

For perspective, the avg age of the Green Bay Packers is 25.

Here's a quote from the Reveille dated Dec 3, 2003.

"“I came here to be a part of the LSU football team,” Daniels said. “It didn’t matter if I was going to play one snap or a whole series if I had to go in and play, then that’s what I have to do because I had to remember when you come to college … you can’t play for yourself. You have to play for the name on the side of your helmet.”

Might as well change it to five years of eligibility now.
