He is out for the year for cheating. The wrong class narrative is bogus and frankly insulting to the intelligence of fans that they think we would buy that as the reason.

Have you read some of the replies in these threads?

There isn’t anything else to it. This is exactly what happened. An academic advisor registered him into classes and one of the classes was the wrong one so he didn’t get the credit for the class he was supposed to be taking because he didn’t take it. This is on LSU being incompetent. Not Emery.

IDK, this seems really dumb. Why would LSU even offer classes that dont count?

If it was a grades issue, any class should be fine. You can take a music class and it count toward your overall GPA. It may not count towards your particular degree, but that also shouldnt matter.

He either didnt make the grade, or like others have said, he cheated.

I took an intro to hotel, restaurant and tourism that didnt count towards my degree but was an easy A to raise my overall GPA. I just ended up taking 3 more hours than I actually needed to graduate.

I mean I assume he knows what his degree is in and would know if the class he is in is indeed the correct one.

When did this supposedly happen? Summer semester? This semester?

Why would the coaches put out the "took the wrong class" narrative if that were the case? Especially now since Ed is on thin ice. Makes them look even worse.

Do we even know that it’s the coaches who put that narrative out there? Serious question, as I’m not sure exactly where this stuff originated.

No way this is the whole story. If the classes are the reason and no fault of his then this is complete bs

According to the OP he just said Emery was out for the season.

ETA: This part makes a lot more sense if it’s not actually a “scheduling” issue:
quote:

When further asked to comment about LSU compliance and how the Emery situation came to, coach O said “I think they do a good job”.

Also, whoever is in charge of controlling the narrative and spin control for LSU football needs to be evaluated If this is the best excuse they sat around and conjured.

I mean damn this is some stupid shite “I got it let’s just say he took the wrong class on accident”

Is it confirmed he took the "wrong class" or is it just still speculation? Seems like everyone on this board is 100% he took the wrong class.

But this doesnt make sense. The Correct class? They either count or they dont. Hes also a younger player. You arent even applying to your college until after your sophomore year.

At least thats how it used to be, You were in UCAC first, not the college of arts and science or college of business, etc...

Yes it is, you have to have a certain amount of credits fulfilled in each area. You could have all A’s in every class you take but if you’re not taking the courses that are required and fulfilling the requirements you can still be ineligible.

I wonder how you can even be enrolled in the school and not be athletically eligible.

Sometimes people like to cover up the truth with another truth or a half-truth.

He very well could have taken a course that is not relevant to his major, aka "the wrong class", to bring up his GPA. However, he could've also failed/got caught cheating/whatever in the course that he needed to pass in order to stay eligible.

Jacob Hester
@JacobHester18
The John Emery “was signed up for the wrong class” narrative is completely false. The academic issue Emery is going through isn’t because of a “wrong” class that was taken this summer. #LSU

of course he doesn't expound on this.

Spoke to a few former LSU athletes. They speak VERY highly of the Academic Center

The "wrong classes" comment is likely a misspeak by CEO

Summer credits may not have "counted" because they are part of the NEW academic year. It wouldn't get you out of the previous year's trouble.

The NCAA apparently requires you to earn 18 credit hours per academic year that they say starts with Summer and ends through Spring. If JE didn't earn 18 by Spring, he was out no matter what he took this Summer.

JE likely didn't earn enough credits from the previous year to maintain eligibility.
