Longstreet can also return punts, never seen a backup QB as punt returner but evidently he is the backup returner to Watkins

Clark's adlib ability is off the charts. You can tell he's not a polished thrower but that may come with time.
Longstreet looked comfortable in the pocket and went through his progressions.
Yes it was against McNeese. But it gave these guys ample playing time in Tiger Stadium which may be huge down the road.
I'll trust Kiffin and his decision if and when the time is needed for the backup to actually play meaningful snaps.

I think we can all agree that Longstreet is the clear #2.

Somewhat related, when was the last time LSU played 4 QBs in the same game?
Posted on 10/5/26 at 11:04 am to TigerinAL
You learned that from the McNeese game?

Small sample size, but Longstreet looked a lot more comfortable running the offense. He looked more like a QB who is a good athlete. Clark looks more like a good athlete playing QB. Love Clark and his energy and running ability. I think even with a healthy Leavett, he still has an important role on this team. And is probably the “#2” if it’s in-game for a series or 2.
But if Leavett has to miss a game or 2, I think with a full week of prep, Longstreet is probably gonna get the hypothetical start.
And there’s no way Longstreet is our 2nd best punt returner. How would Lane have even figured that out anyway? (Unless he has a beast returning punts in high school). I wonder if Lane doesn’t have some sort of crazy trickeration punt play in his back pocket to set everything up for a return to 1 side and have somebody sprint back to the other to get even with Longstreet and have him throw a lateral to him. Or just have him spot the ball after a fair catch and start running the offense without letting the opponent sub out of their punt team personnel. If that’s even legal. Maybe they automatically let you sub after a change of possession.
But there’s a reason Longstreet has been back there so much. Even if we don’t have any sort of crazy trick lateral play. Other teams will start having to anticipate that we do. And spend at least a little time trying to figure out what it could be and practicing for it just in case. May only be 10 minutes of prep in an entire week. But that’s 10 minutes they’re not working on something else.

Clark is #2 because he's the most easy to slide in to replace Leavitt from a skillset perspective. Otherwise you get the Les Miles and Brian Kelly days where you recruit two completely different QB's like Jefferson and Lee or Nuss and MVB and have to completely change the offense when one gets hurt.
What are you talking about? Clark and Longstreet have the same skillset. One was rated the #4 QB coming out of high school, one wasn't rated. Longstreet is faster than Clark. Do you see Clark back returning punts? If we want to compare who was more accurate, look at the stats.

Kiffin was hoping he found another chambliss.
He didn’t
He didn’t

The only thing I agree to is that is 100% up to Lane and Charlie...

Way too early to say this. Clark wasn't a 5th year senior when he got here.

I think we can all agree that Longstreet is the clear #2.

Everyone needs to pray that Sam stays healthy
Neither of these QBs are ready win a SEC games

Agreed.
If something happens to Sam I think you'll see HL elevated to #1 and we'll still run packages for LC

You are obviously blind and don't know chit about football. Clark is brought in to run the football. If we are relying on his arm accuracy, we are facked. Did you watch the game? Probably not, just love the Clark hype, huh?

Clearly Longstreet is not a clear #2 or he would have won the backup job already. Clark is not that tall and has to work on accuracy, but he is a young QB and that is to be expected.
Dude is a great runner with excellent vision and appears to have no fear. Great qualities, but you also have to be careful as a QB with those qualities. He also appears to have a cannon of an arm.
He led his high school to a 15-0 season and won their first state title in 50+ years, was a state champ in track, and a runner up in basketball. So he is obviously a great athlete. Given time with Lane coaching him, he could be an exciting player. I'm just happy we appear to have two very capable, fast backup QBs.

Way too early to tell anything except Sam is number one.
