How many ? What 2 ? I’m asking for a friend!

I texted my buddies as soon as I saw Guidry coming in:
"Man, I don't love the move to Guidry here."
And it played out exactly as I expected. Georgia hits far too well to trust Guidry at all in that spot. Just leave Sheerin in there.

My knee jerk reaction was the same.
Guidry has to have the highest number of flyball outs to the warning track per batters faced on the staff.
And Jay brings him in to pitch on THAT softball field?
But after taking some time to think about it and knowing how much thought Jay puts into EVERYTHING, he decided this was the time for Guidry to decide his spot on the roster moving forward
Jay is managing this team for next year, whether we like it or not. Sure, he wants to win, but he knows more than anyone what this team is up against in its present state.
He’s going to figure out what he’s got with the marginals and work on getting what he needs to get his program back to competing for championships. Losing these games the same way every time versus the better SEC teams is no accident.
My disappointment tonight was much less with Guidry, who essentially gave us an open roster spot for next year, but with the step back that Schmidt took. You can’t give up 10 free bases in 4 innings (7 BBs, 2 HBP, and a WP).
Regardless, he’s a piece moving forward. Let’s use these last 5 games to see who wants to be a part of the turnaround next year.

Yes
We have mismanaged the pitching we have all year.

There is a good team in there. Think about this, if Jay had Anderson and Eyanson this season, this team would be in their way to a 18(at least)win season in the sec. Think about all the games we lost, the high scoring ones and plug those 2 guys into those situations. Different story. This team has enough defense and hitting. Lsu lacks the stones on the bump.

This is about as stupid a take as I’ve ever seen. Yea and if we’d have had Konnor griffin last year we would have won 60 games.

My point was we dont have two good pitchers like last season for the weekend rotation and thats the only difference. Makes plenty of sense. Anyone who knows baseball would understand this is the reason we have lost about 7 more game than would have with solid pitching.

We don't have any consistent pitchers, but we absolutely have better options than Guidry in that situation. Fontenot, Garcia, and Lachenmayer are three names that come to mind who have shown an ability to get big outs at times lately, even if they are also capable of getting blown up. Guidry gets blown up nearly every time he pitches now.
Not the guy I would have gone with, and I'm not sure what Jay was expecting.

Cowen who gave up the walk off at Miss St?
Bottom line is Jay has no good options and went with the guy who has experience pitching in CWS finals and it didn’t work.
Plus, isn’t Cowen starting a game this weekend?

This is an odd statement. Guidry did not pitch well in the CWS, and Cowan dominated Arkansas last year at the CWS. Cowan is also coming off 6 shutout innings last week. He'll only start if he doesn't get used in relief. Which is the point some are making, that he should have been in this game.
I don't know that it had to be Cowan, but Guidry just hasn't been able to get outs in the SEC this year. Garcia has had moments, as well as Fontenot, like I mentioned in this thread, and while those guys might not make you feel super confident, they make me at least feel like there's a shot.

Pitching staff is buns this year. We don’t have a starter that can go 6 innings.

So you burn Cowen in a tie game? No.
Posted on 5/9/26 at 7:16 am to pitchandcatch27
No. You don't bring Cowan in this late on a Friday game. We were playing to take 2 of 3 from them.
It is easy to 2nd guess after the game. We just needed our relievers to pitch better. They didn't.

Putting him in at that moment, in what was still a winnable game, blew my mind, too.
I think CJJ just knew that he had a bunch of shitty options, and it was going to take some luck & risk to sneak out of the series with two wins. So he went with the guy with the most big game experience and hoped to hell that he was past giving up these soul-crushing bombs....but he wasn't.
That's all I can come up with. But surely he had all the same flashbacks we did watching Guidry head out to the mound.
Guidry just never came around, and the injury messed up his development, I think.
I feel bad for the guy. You know he's one that gives a shite and bleeds purple & gold. Really wanted him to be the hero last night.
But alas. Now JJ has to shoot the moon and win 2 straight.

Guidry needs to hang it up. Hell he has two rings.

Who would you have went with and why?

I clearly did not say that. I responded to your comment that seemed to take a shot at Cowan by saying he blew the MSU game, and then backing up the decision to go to Guidry because of his CWS experience, even though Cowan has a better reputation at the CWS.
I mentioned the others who would have been better options.
