people think that with the resources has (facilities, recruiting base, and competive with coaching salaries) there is no reason LSU shouldn't have the same expectations as Alabama has.
There are more than a handful of other schools with the same resources and even more storied history than LSU. But there are not more than a handful of Nick Sban's out there.

Is there a bigger talent gap b/w Bama and Ole Miss or Bama and LSU?
I know what you are getting at.
Go find the chart.
It's Bama, LSU a distant second, then a bunch of programs really close to LSU (OM is one, UF, Auburn are in there).
Yes, I am aware OM has beaten Bama two years in a row.

I saw it. It was well done.

I honestly had no idea it was that wide.
I knew Bama had the #1 class several years in a row, but damn.
(Here is the part where I don't say what I want to say)

Casual fans who don't know anything think LSU can't do any better and see Les as a sympathetic figure.
Pretty dumb opening statement, not bothering with the other 7 pages (so far).
Lots of 'harcore' fans don't know anything (if you spend more than hour reading TD).

Many, many other examples of quick turnarounds at the college level.
but also many many more examples of no quick turn arounds. Harbaugh- lets see what happens in the next year or two. Saban and Meyer win wherever they go and are more the exception rather than the norm. Not saying I am dissapointed with keeping Miles, but not saying I am not dissapointed either. The fact is that he is our coach for at least one more year and I will support the Tigers no matter who is coach.

Well since the alumni aren't giving money, LSU needs the casual fans. What else ya got?

Nobody is disputing that. What concerns me is that Alabama isn't the only one outperforming us in recent years. We have taken a backseat to Ole Miss two years in a row, MSU and Auburn once in the last two years, and Arkie is passing us as we speak. In the last EIGHT years, we are a combined 8-8 vs. Ole Miss and Arkansas, arguably the two weakest programs in the division over that time frame, in spite of their recent gains. The only SEC West team that hasn't beaten us at least one of the last two games is Texas A&M. Florida seems on the right track to get back to their former levels. Tennessee is coming on, albeit slowly. And, of course, around the country there are several others (Ohio State, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Florida State, for four quick examples).
Well said and full of facts...........

Good grief.
What program wishing to grow does not pursue casual fans?

The LSU football program is a success.
Look across the country and only Alabama is doing better over the last decade.
We are in a slump and Miles is a good coach and most all of us agree we need to adjust the offense and next year we will win regardless of any changes.
Casual fans or hardcore fans they all make the system work. I know people who get so drunk when LSU loses its pathetic and also the same people get just as drunk when they win. The only difference is they are miserable drunks or happy drunks

Go back 8 fricking years for an example? Brilliant, people like this is why we suck

Sure, tell yourself that. Instead of "casual" how about "fans who live in reality". Take a look around and there is ONE program - ONE that meet what the "Hardcore" LSU fans expectations are - Alabama. As much as it pains me to say it, LSU does not have the history, nor the resources, nor the coaching talent Alabama has.
Right now in college football Saban is far and away the best HC in the game. I wish the "hardcore" LSU fans would realize those facts.
So we should just lay down and accept the Bama beating every year?
What about to teams like Arkansas where Les is 6-5 in 11 seasons? That is who our peer is not Bama?

casual fans aren't the problem... stupidity is the problem... a casual fan with average intelligence should easily come to the conclusion that miles needs to go
