Hardcore football fans know LSU has as many or more resources to win as compared to anybody else and should expect more than we've been getting.

Casual fans who don't know anything think LSU can't do any better and see Les as a sympathetic figure.

"Hardcore fans" that live and die vicariously through the success/failure of 18-22 year old kids must live boring lives

Sure, tell yourself that. Instead of "casual" how about "fans who live in reality". Take a look around and there is ONE program - ONE that meet what the "Hardcore" LSU fans expectations are - Alabama. As much as it pains me to say it, LSU does not have the history, nor the resources, nor the coaching talent Alabama has.

Right now in college football Saban is far and away the best HC in the game. I wish the "hardcore" LSU fans would realize those facts.

Right premise, wrong conclusion.

Casual fans are the reason games are sold out but the stadium is half empty by half time. To the front office they see the $ and thus have no incentive to change. It's not as if casual fans don't want to win championships, it's that they don't care.

And guess what, you and yours are probably on the casual side just based on the odds.

Or could it be that some people realize how long it takes coaching to show up on the field. How 18 and 19 yr old lineman in their first or second year will, more times than not, struggle against 3rd and 4th year players. How a young QB starting his first year will have up and down moments. Will rush throws and get confused often. How having a new Defensive Coordinator with some different terminology will cause break downs and confusion. How lack of depth on the defensive front 7 will cause problems. How 3 losses is what most people expected before the season started. Just a thought.

I mostly agree, but...

Just looking at this site alone during that time, I'd say that there were a lot of fans (including myself) that were for the 1st time finding themselves not completely in Miles' corner.

I consider myself a pretty "hardcore" fan, and this statement is on the money.

I'm with you, but to be fair, bama is the only team on our conference who meets the expectations. I think these guys would probably be OK with the results of Ohio state, fsu,and clemson over the last 4 years. Then again none of those 3 have to play the entire SEC west and Florida every year.

Here's the deal; those of us who watch a lot of football know the difference. For example, Michigan State pulls off a picture perfect 22 play drive to beat Iowa. A thing of beauty actually. Think a Les Miles coached team could pull that off? I guarantee one or several of the following will happen: a delay of game; a false start; a timeout after a delay; a completely botched play or two; substitution problems etc?
Those are things that have nothing to do with scheme & 100% to do with coaching. Therein lies the issue: when it's coaching the casual observers blame scheme, when it's scheme the casual observers say it's players not executing.
