Sure looked like Orgeron wanted to take the points on the 1 yard line and Canada told him to frick himself and they went for it.

he never once had play sheet in his hands. or at least I didnt see it.
meh, the best coaches in cfb are hands on coaches.
it's just that after so many years of Miles we deem a hands off coach as the right way to go.
imo, if he was gonna be so hands off then we should've tried to get him to stay on staff as dline coach and offer Aranda the job. at least with aranda, you know our defense will be good throughout his tenure.

Joe, I'll do O's job for half the price. I promise to hire the best coordinators and let them put together and run a game plan. I love LSU and I really want to be the coach. Yawyawyaw!!!!
don't forget the binder.

I don't quite follow your thinking here. Aranda is a defensive genius. He is that because he devotes countless hours to film study and developing a plan that puts LSU strengths over opponents weaknesses. Why would you think he could maintain the same production if he had to devote all the additional time to hear coach responsibilities?

because everywhere aranda has been he has had a good defense

he would still be heavily involved in the game planning of the defense.
what has ed orgeron shown he is a genius at?
just like bama's defense will never be bad while Saban is there.
just like Ohio State's offense won't suck while UM is there.
every great coach is heavily involved on one side of the ball.

Amen. This whole hands off approach is nothing more than a reprieve from les 'meddling' in the offense.
Just because it didn't work for les doesn't mean it's not the best plan for success.
I would much rather have urban or jimbo running my offense than a HC that can't run it. If nothing else, its a safety valve for those times your coordinators go dumb. And they all do.
I just can't imagine O telling aranda or Canada that they are doing something wrong schematically. I mean it's his job, but I think I would trust the coordinators to make the calls over someone that's never been a DC.

Both can work Bobby Bowden had about as good a run as anybody being a figure head type coach. Les problem wasn't that he was a hands on coach it was the fact he had no expertise yet meddled in one side of the ball. I've said this many times if Les would've taken the Bowden approach have been our HC until he retired. Btw Urban doesn't run the offense he never has his specialty is on the defensive side of the ball.

What the hell are you smoking lol
He hasn't coached defense since like 1985.
From wiki...
quote:
Meyer's success can be attributed to his unique offensive system, which is an offshoot of Bill Walsh's West Coast Offense, relying on short pass routes.[30] Meyer's base offense spreads three receivers and puts the quarterback in shotgun formation.[31] Then, he introduces motion in the backfield and turns it into an option attack, adding elements of the traditional run-oriented option offense.[31]
He practically built the offense he ran at bowling green, utah, and florida
He called plays (offense) at BG and utah

he has been an offensive coach the majority of his career
only 3 years of his 30+ years in coaching was on the defensive side of the ball.
he has been heavily involved in the offense since his bowling green days.

Vacherie is the same area as Larose (SOUTH Lafourche) or are you from somewhere else???
I was born in Thibodaux and raised in Paradis. Both are closer to Larose than Vacherie and I don't consider either in the same area.

Coach O's fingerprints were all over the game. The gameplan was to kill the clock, dominate both lines of scrimmage, and score enough to win and he let it play out. Going for the field goals instead of trying to punch it in on 4th down was his call every time until Canada convinced him otherwise. He made sure that Canada wasn't giving away much, he got a lot of freshmen experience, he made sure that the pre-snap penalties were corrected, he kept the team's morale high, and he likely was talking with Aranda often about personnel. He's not just sitting back and doing nothing. He's the conductor of the orchestra.
We learned a lot about how he wants to win. Gas the opponent's defense, keep your defense fresh, play sound special teams, and minimize mistakes. Very similar to Miles. There was never a moment where victory was in doubt because of the way Orgeron handled the game. Canada only called about 3-4 run plays the entire game and the pass plays were nothing fancy. It wasn't even vanilla. It was completely unflavored and that's how Orgeron wanted it.

How so?
I love that the "stupid" comment came from the guy who said that UM is known as a defensive-minded coach.
