Start by getting a push up the middle. Bench Smith and start Jefferson would help. Try some of the younger guys in the secondary. The DBs can’t seem to grasp this defense

This is the worst at CB LSU has been in decades and that's not getting significantly better. MAYBE Harris can improve the situation a little bit, learn more zone principles so they can play more combo coverages but the change / improvement has to come along the front 7 and their ability to create more pressure because the coverage will not be "fixed" anytime soon.

Smith HAS to become more dominant on the inside and demand more attention. Right now, he is a shell of himself and is commanding very little respect.

The youngsters need to step up. Some of these are 4 and 5 stars who have not played at that level in college. It is time for them to step up and surpass the transfers.

They can get better at rushing the QB

I agree that this is the answer. Our front is good. They get after the QB and have finally started playing well against the run.

Teams are going to have to outscore us which means going pass heavy.

Our DBs aren’t going to get better, so we need to reduce the opposing QBs’ time to expose them. That means more/better pass rush.

Curious to see what adjustments we make. Need to get Womack more playing time, Yates or someone else at Safety for Burns he gets burned every time in coverage or holds when he doesn't. Jefferson needs to get more playing time too. Maason Smith is going to get better with each game but right now Jefferson is playing better than he is so he needs to be on the field.

We need to put in someone else besides major burns he’s a liability.

elite talent is not there. Avg to below avg talent is there. Not sure you can fix that. Smith is playing like a 2 star, not a 5 star.

Yes defense can be fixed to an extent . I think once smith gets back to playing shape and the younger DEs get more reps the pass rush will get better . The LBs will get better with the rotation and using Perkins more to his strengths. Now secondary will still struggle because we are just not good and thin . But I believe they can grow and maybe start rotating some younger DBs in there

Defense fell apart in the second half vs Arkansas, but for the first they did what they were supposed to do for the most part. The offense just didn’t wake up until almost at the half. If they can put together a complete game like they did against Miss St, combined with a fast start offense, LSU could be really lethal.

I believe our biggest problem on defense is we do not get consistent pressure up the middle. I root for Maason Smith weekly, but I do not see improvement. I noticed a quicker, more explosive unit when Jordan Jefferson took his spot.

I think it can be.
I’ve stated this before but from my perspective, the secondary has two issues.
1. They aren’t always sticking to their assignments.
2. The main issue however is that often times our guys are in position to make the play, but they aren’t getting their heads around in time to make a play on the ball.
I feel these two issues can certainly be fixed. But we will see.

It’s not there in the secondary. Harris is coming around and Sam is playing really well but everyone else isn’t consistent and have major flaws that get exposed every week.

Perkins should be lined up on the dline way more often. This slot coverage or showing slot coverage and blitzing isn’t working. When you put him over the Tackle he s able to take advantage of his bend. This means more sacks and more holding penalties on them.

KJ did a great job of moving in the pocket and then keeping his eyes up and finding receivers in our ultra soft zone.

KJ is a great college QB. LSU may not face a better QB the rest of the season.

Db talent is not there at all. Jefferson needs to start and Smith needs to back up. I don’t think this can be fixed l, maybe can be masked if the d line starts really wrecking shite. I also think House is out of his league

Every week is different and sometimes the makeup of a certain offense/qb will present a defense more problems than a team whose defense is overall more inferior.

I agree. Also, I don't think people are giving Jefferson enough credit. He played well with great pocket presence and very hard to bring down. Not too mention most games vs Arkansas are very close games.

The rush wasn't terrible against Arkansas. We flushed Jefferson a number of times and either 1. Couldn't get him down or 2. Had a coverage bust that allowed for a big gain.

We won't see another QB like Jefferson the rest of the way. He's like Cam Newton if Cam Newton wasn't a great passer. Big bodied, athletic QB who is tough to bring down.

The more concerning thing to me are the coverage busts. We better hope it's a communication and/or concept problem and not the DBs just being that bad.

Personally I think we're in zone entirely too much. We have two corners in Harris and Alexander that are great in press man. Let them do what they do best.

It's that Steve Spagnuolo defense, where if the QB evades the rush, the zone defensive backfield gets obliterated.

You do know he was Defensive Coordinator in the SEC just a few years ago right?

You need 4 or 5 corners to play press, not 2.
