Talent is there to at least be a serviceable unit.

They can get better at rushing the QB by playing Womack more and rushing Perkins more frequently. Smith playing to his capability would help too.

Yes, won’t be great but can be good.

Jefferson, weeks, Harris, womack among others are making big strides.

House can call better games, he has before.

We don’t face any great offenses until a potential playoff, our d CAN play with anyone in the SEC.

While there are definitely issues, I don’t think it’s nearly as bad as last night would indicate. Every week is different and sometimes the makeup of a certain offense/qb will present a defense more problems than a team whose defense is overall more inferior. We completely shut Moo State down on the road but they ran up and down the field at South Carolina for the tune of 520 yards. They only lost because of some critical turnovers. I realize that’s not a great defense, but you have to execute to do it. South Carolina defense did a better job with Georgia on the road then they did with MSU at home, and that’s a tough environment. We’ll have to see what happens week by week and hopefully we improve. It does seem like mobile qbs are going to be more of a problem right now because our coverage doesn’t hold up. Eye discipline has to get better.

I think so. There were so many chances for the defense to get stops but Zy gets caught watching the QB instead of his man, Perkins gets a BS Roughing call etc. plus KJ is a big mf and they couldn’t get him on the ground. Dart is mobile but he’s much easier to bring down.

Yes, players can perform to their capabilities and fix the correctable mistakes - tackling, blown coverages, etc

IMO calling more man coverages with creative 4-5 man blitz would help.

I think it can be. I’m still scarred from Miles’ co-defensive coordinator thing. I refuse to believe the defense will be like that again.

hard to bring in a new scheme in 4 games into the season.

soft zone just isn't the answer.

I’m watching last night’s game on DVR, I couldnt believe the constant holding by Arkansas o-linemen. Pittman coaches it well to his credit. It’s hard to get off blocks and get to/tackle a big mobile qb when you have to bring yourself and an attached lineman with you.

Watching replay now. KJ did a great job of moving in the pocket and then keeping his eyes up and finding receivers in our ultra soft zone.

Feels like the RPO works on us every play. Burns never stepped up and made the play. He did tackle well on run plays though.

Zy has been behind the receiver on every play. Denver played well but needs to learn to look for the ball on deep throws.

Would love to see us mix it up and blitz more. If we do blitz, it’s an obvious Perkins blitz.

As much as I dislike House’s scheme he has them in position to get stops a lot of the time. The main problem is the missed tackles and blown coverages.

Depends if House puts his focus on this defense vs getting a HC job.

amazing how much better Mizzou's defense looks with our ex-LB coach.

House is highly overrated IMV

I think the zone scheme is too complex for our DBs

Just my opinion

Nah only fix is firing house and that won’t happen mid season since BK isn’t a defensive guy and our staff is subpar so no one could take it over

A full zone d has never been great at LSU.

The issue is we have a southland corner so we don’t really have the horses to lock down man on an island.

I do think bringing 5 and having 6 in coverage would work better. It gives us more chances for positive plays

Should be fixable since we are pretty good on 1st and 2nd down. We are even ok on 3rd down if the opponent is in 4 down territory.
It’s really bizarre.

I am starting to get concerned that scheme is more the problem. Constantly losing containment on the QB, soft zone, getting pushed literally 5 yds back on the DL... we are playing very passive at times.
