Internal cancer plagued the team. Basically, he stopped playing. He hid and ran away from plays.

Misused but still finished top 10-11 alltime at LSU in sacks and higher in TFLs. Led the team every year in those categories and let the team in INTs last year as well. Guy finished his career with more sacks and TFLs than Glenn Dorsey, KiKi Mingo and many others but Kelly’s teams underperformed after year 1 and fans look for scapegoats, Perkins was scapegoated.

It wasn't necessarily as much of a Perkins sucks problem as it was a rant group think problem.
'They" gave him too many responsibilities, reads and assignments.

He's a pure rusher.

ILB.

Star. NO. Too many responsibilities.

Best position. OLB in rush situations.

OR.........Running Back. Just give him the football and let him run fast with it.

The same people complaining he didn’t get enough sacks were the ones saying he shouldn’t be rushing the QB. It was bizarre.

Perkins was a perfect example of a physically gifted player with no football IQ. Instincts for football are required to be great.

You have to understand and realize there’s no tape on him at that point. Him moving by to lb and then to star is more of helping him become a lb than a one trick pony and try to avoid teams targeting him. People have to realize playing sec LB it takes realistically 2yrs if they stay at the exact same position ( so 2 yrs at will or 2yrs at mike or 2yrs at will) when they are asked to move consistently and learn something new without having a true base there will be struggles for those 2 yrs, what helped whit is he’s always played the will
