He had moments. I can also vividly remember him being way out of place and loafing. Vanderbilt comes to mind.

He should have been doing a lot of what Jamal Adams and Jacoby Stevens did but they tried to make him Sam Mills lol

Yes. People seem to forget he also won the Ole Miss game for us a month before with his play in the 2nd half of that game.

For some reason, he appeared to take plays off and become lazy in his later years

I think they wanted to keep him there but staff had promised him a NFL LBer career. IMHO he was 20yrs old maxed out growing and 220lbs. You can’t come off the edge at 220 in the NFL. So if he gains 25lbs more after already gaining 21lbs his speed would’ve diminished. CBK(wow hadn’t typed that in a minute) talked it over with family and to get to the NFL he needed to move inside. I’m sure Blake coming in didn’t want to do it but he felt obligated to. Perk stayed at LSU, could’ve portaled but new school wasn’t going to promise him that , they probably were going to rush him but he didn’t want that. So failed experiment. In this Portal/NIL era the player has the leverage even if it cost a victory or 2. I don’t like CBK personally but I really think he did right by Perk, just was a tweener, not heavy big enough to come off edge in the league. Perk just not elite enough to play inside. That’s my opinion, but I really believe that was the situation. I believe CBK & staff really wanted to leave him there but had assured Perk & family while recruiting he’d be a NFL Linebacker. He won’t come off the Edge regularly but he’ll have his moments. Perk has raw talent out the wahzu!

I’m going to give you the brutal honest answer. IQ. He’s not very bright at all.

People will say he was undersized to rush, to get off block, etc. He’s far bigger and more athletic than a guy like Tyrann Mathieu but Mathieu could do it so why couldn’t he? Because he lacked the IQ and the heart.

Explosive speed, below average ability to fight through blocks. Freshman season there wasn't enough tape on him, as he was used sparingly as a third down pass rusher for much of the season, always fresh, always explosive. This is the same thing we saw with D. Guice. Incredible as a spell back, not great as bellcow, due to their flashy, sack out style.

Then the move inside.... I get it, attack your own weaknesses to become a better all around player, would have been a better idea year three with age and size. Injury... what can you do, it's an ACL. He came back from it really well, but you lose so much time to that injury.

Really good player, takes plays off due to his play style and strengths, most notable of which is unique closing speed. When he goes, he's got safety speed at LB position, but then he's gonna watch for a play.

That's just your opinion and I doubt you have much to base it off of.

They played two different positions.

His freshman year no one had seen him. He used his raw athletic abilities and speed to create havoc. Late in the year once the book was out on him he was less effective. After that the book was out on him. Just watch last year. The Vandy game was a prime example. If he just plays his assignment he would be successful. But numerous times he would over pursue to the inside and that little drunk QB would just roll out away from him for a big gain down field.

He just isn't big enough to play on the edge where his skillset fits the most. He is an athletic freak but didn't work out in the inside. I was hoping to see him develop like Devin White but it just never happened.

Freshmen to sophomore year numbers weren't that different, really.

Okay bro

Because by the Arkansas game he had 40 tackles 8TFL 3.5 sacks and an interception.

He has also been named the SEC Freshman of the week one game and SEC Defensive player of the week another game.

That pathetic group of coaches essentially neutered him trying to make him into something he wasn't. Should have just let him roam and rush the QB.

I think the move inside had more to do with it than anything else. It got him hurt bc he was too small, and negated his speed, which was his greatest asset.

No expert but he seemed very blockable from the inside

He was a one trick pony, surprise blitz off the edge. When teams were able to gameplan against it he was neutralize. He was also too small to shed blocks but too big to play safety

Massive impact for freshman season was nobody knew anything about him and he didn’t start a lot. No opponent really schemed to neutralize him. He only made his name when Lane called him out after we beat ole miss. Then everyone started to scheme for him.

His sophomore season they tried moving him to inside linebacker because he wanted to and they didn’t want him to leave. That move was very shortsighted by our staff.

Turns out he’s incredibly athletic but lacks football iq. Freak athletic plays he is very suited for. Planned, logical disciplined assignments, not so much.
