Can someone explain Baker’s soft zone or prevent defense to me

That fricking “soft zone” will be the death of me.
It’s insane, coaches will go for every 4th down, no matter how ridiculous it is or where on the field, to look tough and not like a pussy. Then they will go to “soft zone”’ and tell your defense to not rush the QB just contain him and let them catch the ball then tackle them etc, aka be complete pussies and the do the opposite of everything they were ever taught or practiced.
It allows a QB who has been shite all game, or an offense that hasn’t done anything all day to easily drive the ball right down the field. Whatever the frick it is LSU is terrible at playing it just like any aggressive defenses and it’s resulted in two losses so far out of six games.
Incredible. If anyone on here is a big money donor and knows one please for the love of God, let him tell the administration that he’s not giving them another fricking penny if he sees that goddamn defense again. It’s a hideous monster designed to steal all the fun from watching LSU football and it will.
It has prevented us from meeting Ole Miss. It has prevented us from closing out the Kentucky game and it is prevented us from having a great season and prevented us for making the playoffs so far. It’s like John Madden used to say it prevents you from winning.

The funniest part is that in OT we were in man coverage for the 1st and 2nd down that resulted in an incomplete pass and then a 2 yard rush, and then the very next play where Darby got down to the 1 yard line was soft zone. Baker is a complete tard

Being a saints fans I have seen that defense fail so many fricking times it’s unreal. Maybe it just doesn’t work in Louisiana.

How many times have we watched a team march down the field and score on his prevent defense at the end of halves and end of games?

It’s part of his Clown Package. It’s goes along with the 4 stooges stack formation.

I can think of 3 times this year.

Sure. Let the offense get a few yards at a time until they score...

Prevent prevents you from winning and that's it

Well in both losses he’s given up TDs at the half and at the end of the game so safe to say he needs to make an adjustment or two to what he’s doing there
I think he’s a solid to very good DC but not elite. I was glad we kept him last offseason for continuity purposes but I hope someone gives him a job this offseason.

How about he just stop running prevent at the end of a half. That seems to be an easy fix that any idiot that can spot a pattern could recognize.

It’s like taking a pit bull ring dog and ask him to be a puddle show dog

I have never understood why anyone goes to the charmin ‘soft zone’ defense. It takes teams 55 seconds to score, with absolutely no potential to stop a drive.
In contrast, a regular defense that rushes multiple, different players (4-5 rushers) and utilizes twist and stunts. Has the potential to stop a drive (esp when a team has no timeouts - a sack ends the game), but in rare occasions gives up a big play.
One of the things that is particularly maddening about the special baker charmin package, is that he tries to use regular personnel with lbs and dline in coverage.

For those zones to work you have to be getting constant pressure. Dave Arranda ran a similar defense but in his scheme you didn't know who was rushing the qb or dropping. It was more like a zone blitz to make the QB get rid of the ball faster
