I hope we can translate it into more championships!

LSU needs to offer more scholarships to overqualified out of state kids. This is what bama (along with the rise of football) did to raise their academic pedigree

it’s what a university is all about, or should be lol!
tru dat.
I actually wish we had purely 'student athletes'
As much as I enjoy watching great athletic deeds - I wish that I could be proud of their academic potential as well as physical prowess.
That would allow the really talented athletes a route directly to their preferred future and not burden them with trying to 'find some trivial subject where they can 'earn' a passing grade for a couple of years.
You DOOOOOOOOO realize that the LSU Cox Academic Center for Student-Athletes is one of the finest of its kind in the nation, right ???????????

I agree with one of the earlier responses that LSU has more of a 'marketing' problem when it comes to academics.
From the initiatives begun by our current president, to the LSU Foundation, to TAF, to LSU Alumni Association, to Forever LSU Campaign, to:
-LSU Press - one of the finest university publishing houses in the country
- One of the top Schools of Veterinary Medicine
-Prestigious world-renowned Pennington Biomedical Research Institute
-Carnegie Institute Top 30 research university
-One of the most beautiful campuses in the world with millions of dollars worth of centuries-old oaks, campus lakes, and ancient Indian mounds.
-Highly ranked curricula and schools of:
Coastal Studies, Hurricane Engineering, Petroleum Enginering, Landscape Architecture, Mass Communications, Entrepreneurship, Veterinary Science, Music & Dramatic Arts, Agribusiness, Geophysics, Design, Paul F.Hebert Law Center,
-Prototype (featured in N.Y.Times and WSJ) :
-Cox Academic Center for Student-Athletes, and -The new billion-dollar Medical Center in New Orleans.
-One of few Athletic Departments that is self sufficient and profitable without State funds:
-Indeed only of 11% of university operating budget comes from the State.
Where the WSJ gets their (^(&%^$%^&*( rankings is beyond me. We are much higher in public school rankings than they fantasize.

I haven't been to a class at LSU in several decades, so I can't say what is going on. I have a niece starting LSU in the fall. She graduated from a St Louis area HS with a top 5% class ranking and 30+ score on the ACT. She looked at a dozen schools. 2 in La. - Tulane and LSU. She scheduled campus visits to LSU and Tulane on the same trip. She also looked closely at Mizzou, Tn and Bama. She chose LSU. She said the LSU campus visit blew everyone out of the water, including Tulane. She recieved a very good scholarship and entry into the LSU honors college.
I did not influence her choice and was a little surprised when I heard she chose LSU. I'm not sure what LSU did, but they impressed this young lady.
I think the brand and the recent NCs also impressed her.
After having said all this, I think the leadership needs to figure out what it needs to do to raise the academic profile a bit. We can do better. I think it has been in decline for 10 to 20 years. What is the formula? What is lacking? I don't think it is that hard to figure out. Is it; more money, better facilities(library), better professors, more highly qualified out of state students? Let's get it done. I think we are tied for last place in the SEC with Ark. and Ms State. Like I said, we can do better! The brand is good! Raise the academic profile to match the brand.

our school won’t get better just like Bama didn’t suddenly become a better school. but if we keep winning enrollment will increase
but the more kids applying to LSU the more selective we can be and our student GPA/ACT averages while rise and all of a sudden we’ll look like a better school.

There were never CRT/AAAS mandates on the table for kids attending LSU
I never said there was.

Discussions, meeting topics, orchestrating a plan of implementation, etc. shouldn't be viewed as mandates.
Again, reread, I never said there were mandates for CRT/AAAS
quote:
I ask the author of the comment to explain to everyone what CRT is
CRT is a belief system based on an implied power structure where upon power is derived from systemic racism which was created and maintained by white people in order to preserve a social structure (hegemony) that provides a multitude of unjust advantages over people of color, esp blacks.
You can read more from Robin DeAngelo, Jean Stefanik, Angela Davis, Richard Delgado, and Herbert Marcuse to learn about it
I said vaccine mandates and that was the ultimate show stopper for my kids to attend.

I think there's many different things that go into it. Tons of out of state Alabama students go there because of their massive Greek Life. Sports has also helped get people to go there obviously. LSU sets a new record for incoming freshmen like every year now, so getting people to come isn't necessarily a problem. As others have said, it's mainly going to depend on how the school decides to use the money that is coming in.

Bama hasn't improved their academic rankings, just their perception. They do a good job of using athletics as an advertisement and they have invested heavily in their campus. The two big "innovations" that Bama made in admissions are that they employ regional recruiters who live in various parts of the country (they were the first public to embrace this) and they give automatic scholarships to out of state students based on high ACT and GPA. The recruiters can point to the newer campus, a huge Greek scene, and then assure the smart kids that they'll get a scholarship.
The result is that their school is now 70% out of state students. I'm not sure that is LSU's goal.

Also, LSU's address and surrounding areas have been the same for as long as I can remember. Crime is an unfortunate reality of existence. I hope that the institution of choice for your kids is as close to perfect as the idea of a crimeless society.
So this makes it OK?
Ruston is very low on crime, esp murder.

LSU really needs to sell how big of an engineering school it really is more. Top of the SEC in that regard. Our business school could be better at placing jobs, but they all have to leave to Texas for a legitimate finance career.
LSU can have all the academic success it wants but the state economy holds it back in my opinion. Young college grads don’t want to stay in BR nor do they want to move to Lafayette or Shreveport. Nola is the only true “major city” in the state, and it’s a cess pool. It’s the same for Ole miss and Miss State. Bama is starting to grow but most just go to ATL.
Uga and UF have that upper hand in the SEC with major cities to go to. This makes it easier finding jobs being close to alumni employers.

Alabama showed them the blueprint. Need to invest in improving campus infrastructure then start going after top out of state talent with scholarships.
LSU created the blueprint when Emmert and Saban were at LSU. Saban took the blueprint to Alabama and improved upon it.
There is no reason LSU can't use current athletic success to make similar improvements.

Cuz: You gave me a googled answer. That's the point. It's not something that is taught in school, as it's been marketed as. Despite our beliefs on it, the school isn't/wasn't ever pushing this narrative. People assumed and ran with it.
Crime is everywhere is the point. Worry is understandable, but BR crime isn't LSU crime, if that makes sense (regarding follow up post about crime)

I've got family in Tuscaloosa and they told me that shortly after Saban started doing well there, the number of applicants shot up (in addition to all the money flowing in). When that happens, the university can be more selective with who they admit, and the student quality goes up.

LA kids…all who’ve grown up LSU fans…who have ended up going to Bama bc they rolled out the red carpet, gave huge scholarships, and were just all around more impressive academically than LSU
Agree until the last statement.
Plus, many of these kids want to get away, make their own path, or just do something different. Know lots CHS and SJA kids that go to Bama, OM, even State, and academics is NOT the deciding factor
