The only positive I believe for the bye week is to help a team recover from injuries if needed. Otherwise, I think a team loses it’s momentum and focus. The break in the routines and possible distractions are more of a negative that than the thought of extra preparation. What are y’all’s thoughts?

We don’t need thoughts when we have 15 years of results suggesting it does not have the intended effect

ETA: we’ve also had 15 years of coaches who had no idea how to prepare a game plan so maybe BK can do something with the extra time and break my Pavlovian conditioning here. I’d still rather have them sooner than later

I believe Kelly won't let that happen.

Alabama has been doing it every year for the last 15 years as well. I think they understand the significance of having two weeks to prepare for your most physical game of the season. There’s a reason why both schools do it.

After the win this past weekend it will be nice for the players to take a little time, enjoy the win, and heal up. I am confident in Brian Kelly and this staff using the bye week in a way that has us prepared and focused for 11/5.

Agree with this. I believe we finally have a coach that knows how to use a bye week.

That two weeks of coaching preparation was a huge advantage for Bama vs. LSU when we had dumb and dumber as HC compared to their coaching staff who could utilize that time for game prep. Now, with a competent coach in Kelly, the bye will not be as huge of a liability for LSU.

I would say one reason for this is that the bye week allows time for some really in-depth self-scouting and reviewing of tendencies. It takes a pretty knowledgeable coaching staff to implement and have the team ready to execute changes resulting from this. Les was too stubborn and old school and Orgeron was in over his head from a schematic standpoint without better X's and O's guys around like Aranda or Ensminger. Kelly appears to be far more capable than those 2 in this regard and I look forward to seeing what the team looks like in 2 weeks.

Try playing 20+ wks without a physical and mental break. Anybody that doesnt think these teams need a bye wk are morons.

Even the pros are using the bye week now.

I think you are looking at it from this year's perspective where LSU is coming off its two best performances.

Sometimes teams need a bye to have a reset, sometimes they don't. No one is going to know however many years in advance whether a bye is going to break momentum.

What is known in advance is that this team needs to be as close to 100% as possible when it plays Bama. So it makes sense to take the bye before Bama every year. It is telling that LSU has always had this weekend as a bye while Bama began taking it as a bye after Saban took over.

This will be the first time in 15+ years (excluding 2019) that Bama’s coaching advantage over us isn’t monumentally large. When it was Saban vs Miles/Orgeron, that bye week tilts so far in favor of Bama. Now that we have adults in charge I think it’ll even the scales a little bit.

We do and it seems to favor having the bye, though not by much

since 2000 with the bye we are 7-8, without 3-4. Slightly better with.

Since Saban has been at Bama we are 4-8 with the bye, 0-3 without. Much better with.

I'm curious to see how CBK handles the bi-week and how we look coming off the bi-week.
