no, that’s why it’s called a “signing” bonus. The salary, however, is if he makes the roster.

It's a good reminder that, for the most part, the only thing guaranteed are those signing bonuses. And that it is REALLY important to go in rounds 1-2 if you can.

Too many of our draft eligible juniors jump a year too early.

That said, the only real "mistakes" I saw this year were Charles and Moss. Charles could have played himself into the first round if he came back and proved he could stay off the weed (maybe he can't). Moss was due to injury history, which could have been alleviated with a healthy 2020 (assuming he made it through without issue).

You could argue Phillips too, except his ceiling is limited by his 40 time and he actually went a little higher than many expected.

All in all a great ending to a dream season. I hope all these guys kill it in the NFL!

Signing bonus is given the moment you sign the contract, hence the name.... There is a term "roster bonus" that's more like what your talking about

Happy for every one of them. They made a lot of Tiger fans happy for a long time.

Just pick a game, a play and . . . and smile about it! How bout, Queen's int vs Bama. See, you're smiling.

God bless and best wishes to each one.

Signing bonuses are usually not paid 100% upfront in a lump sum. Typically, signing bonuses are spread out over at least 2 if not more years. This is one of a few aspects of rookie contracts that is negotiable.

Does he still need $200 for an autograph?

I don't know why you got so many downvotes because you hit the nail on the head. How does everyone feel now about the same people who charged kids a years worth of allowance for pictures and autographs have now combined to bring in 59,000,000 in signing bonuses along with contracts valued over 124,000,000? I don't know how much money the players made off of this but I can guarantee you it is now tiny blip on their radar. If you can't see now how that autograph shite was a low rent, short sited, douche bag move then you are blind. I seriously hope this doesn't become a thing because true fans already sacrifice enough to pay for season tickets, TAF fees, over priced concessions, parking, tailgates, etc., this is just one more thing to add to the list of things that is taking all the enjoyment out of it.

I don't blame the players simply because I am assuming it wasn't their idea. I also don't blame the douche bags who try to bottom feed off people because they are simply doing what they do. I do however blame these players inner circle who are supposed to protect these players from all the douches out there instead of falling victim to their schemes. The money they stood to gain was peanuts compared to their future earnings and not at all worth the potential damage to their reputation.

Now looking back, how cool would it have been if these players did this for free at a fan day? I can only hope that now these players understand what goodwill is and that the money they made was less than the goodwill they could have made, which in the long run, is worth way more.

Saahdiq probably could have earned himself 10 million dollars for another year in school.

Still kinda cheesy. I love Joe but if he was standing in front of me with pen in hand, I'd tell him to take a hike with that $200 nonsense.

How are the details on a first round pick's contract even remotely leaking right now? I wouldn't sign anything until the rest of the first round has started signing. And further, I wouldn't take a penny less than whatever the most a 1st round pick has EVER signed.

JaMarcus signed a 6 year, $61,000,000 contract including $32,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $10,166,667.

Is this contract worth AT LEAST that?

That’s great for him. He deserves every penny of it. A class act all the way.

I don’t think JR got all of that $32 million guaranteed.

The have a rookie pay scale in place now. 2011 maybe? It was after JR signed his deal.

NFL veterans didn't like these rookies coming in making more dollars.

I'm happy for all these guys. And how about Blake Ferguson. $700K/year not too shabby for a deep snapper.

Too bad #1 picks getting fabulous contracts ended with Sam Bradford.

quote:

On July 30, 2010, Bradford signed a six-year, $78 million deal, which has $50 million of guarantees and has a maximum value of $86 million making it the largest contract ever for an NFL rookie.
