nce again, a great alumnus for LSU is a part of the PGA. We may have another one at LSU now that will be another great donor to LSU.

I was speaking in hyperbole, making a point. I don't want any of the programs to be cut. But everyone should have to feel some of this that isn't making money and the only three that do are football, men's hoops, and baseball (usually).

One suggestion I have is to emulate what the $C band does. Allow members to go to events held by alumni groups at a fee, where TB members receive some of the money and money goes to the university. $C has been doing this for years and it even includes attending weddings and funerals.

they did this last year and maybe even in 07 a couple times. I remember they went to some guy's crawfish boil down in Lockport of all places. They also went to Washington for some congressman's party.

There are probably many events in the Baton Rouge area that would pay for a pep band to be there. If need be, I'll contact some $C band alums and get info on what they've done in order to help.

BTW, I attended a few events in BR when I was in Tiger Band and we usually got coupons for champagne brunches to go to at the Hilton. It was always a blast to go to those with my fellow mellos.

this was one of the great things about Frank Wickes, he never whored the band out to do anything (not that your idea wouldn't work) outside our normal responsibilities. Keep in mind that SC's band doesn't have the support from the athletic dept. that tiger band does, so this has been a luxury. If the budget is bad enough to start cutting the marching band, then the new DOB may have to consider doing these types of things. Bottom line is that the tiger band has the sweetest financial deal in all of college bands, and if they lose a little, they'll still have a full band, and you won't notice any change to gamedays.

Not true. Bama, Auburn and other SEC schools are starting to do the same with their bands. As I stated earlier, Tiger Band alums are some of the best, most active alumni for LSU. The president of the LSU Alumni Association is a Tiger Band alumnus.

Bama has done this with their band for a long time, nothing new. They play at marching exhibitions, at the Senior Bowl, at a ton of other outside stuff that we never did. I know for a fact that they've been doing this kind of stuff for at least 15 years now. What I was referring to is that LSU's band hasn't had to even consider doing these things in the past due to their financial arrangement, and on top of that they pay $1000 to each member, AND in addition many music majors in the band receive additional scholarship monies on top of the stipend. Bama and Auburn do not do this. They have some limited scholarships, but not everyone gets paid.

If a donation page was setup to specifically help fund tiger band trips it would do great!

There was a huge outcry when LSU originally announced no pep band to Washington. The outcry was so much that LSU decided to send a pep band to washington but eliminate the full band at an away SEC game.

That would have been a good time to setup something where people can donate.

$1000 stipend to each member yes.

The scholarships for music majors in TGBFTL? Not true. The only way you an receive a scholarship from the band outside of the stipend is if you are an out of state NON MUSIC MAJOR.

tell that to the ppl who line north stadium drive to see the band every saturday. If you got one dollar for every person out there, none of this would be a issue.

As a Tiger Alumnus, this kind of b.s. pisses me off with the university. I donate money and time and even this evening I am going to a dinner in which I will be meeting some well-to-do people here that I want to have LSU involved with them that will benefit the university financially. I don't get money from this as I only do it for the love of the most cherished place on earth to me. All I ask is in return is treat the one organization, of which I am most proud to be an alumnus, with the utmost respect and do not cut anything with them.

I had a full music scholarship in 1992 which covered my tuition and payed me a stipend of $500 per semester. Part of the scholarship agreement that I signed was to participate in tiger band, so the $1000 I received was definitely part of my music scholarship. Then I got the $640 stipend on top of that for "making" the tiger band (ridiculous to use that term for any brass player). That's what I'm basing this off of, if it's changed, then I stand corrected, but as far as I can tell, many music majors are being payed twice to be in band. $1000 to be in band is still off the charts ridiculous imo.

Listen, I enjoy the band. I get fired up when we make a stop on third down and the band starts pumping. I'll bring my daughter to watch them march down the hill next year, but if the band has to sacrifice 10 - 20 members or take some sort of cut, it won't decrease my game day experience.

Sorry if you disagree with my assessment.

The Saints have no band and IMO there is still a great game day experience.

COMPLETELY TRUE. Not one single thing will look or sound different to the average fan if this happens, especially if they're cutting color guard and woodwinds. This would be the equivalent of cutting 5 players from the football team in terms of how it would look different.
