Why would he not have just hired a G5 coach 2-3 weeks ago ?

Occam’s razor my dude. SW is still going to kick the tires on coaches that are still playing. He wouldn’t be a good AD if he rushed into a hire without due diligence

You also can’t rule out assistant coaches that are still in Omaha

But sure...everything is a strategic smokescreen to throw OTOP off the scent

He’s built a solid program that’s hitting on cylinders! Not to mention Charlottesville is a beautiful town tucked away at foot of blue ridge mountains. Can’t blame him for staying.

O'Connor also just got a $500,000 "longevity bonus" for staying at UVA until 6/1.

Imagine him telling UVA "Thanks for the half a mil guys, now I'm headed to BR!"

Not at all what I think nor did I imply that.

If you think he’s just “kicking tires” at this point despite knowing for several months that Paul would be coaching his last season, then I don’t know what to tell you

I work in Charlottesville every Friday and I don't think there is anything special about. You can't even see the mountains from Charlottesville and not mention it is a liberal cess pool.

Correct its one of those 3 and they all coaching in the World Series so nothing will happen for about 10 days so everyone just sit the fuk down and just wait till an announcement is made.

“Kicking the tires” is done extremely early in the process and not directly with the coach himself. Ultimately the hire may not be someone currently in Omaha but the fact an announcement hasn’t been made yet absolutely means there is significant mutual interest between LSU and one or more coaches currently there.

“Kicking the tires” may be the wrong verbiage

I meant having time to talk to and interview candidates that are currently in Omaha

Doesn't seem to make much sense at all.

I don't get this narrative. It's not like he attended there. Or did he and I don't know about it? If he is as good as he believes and he gets LSU back to elite status then why would he leave to go to Arkansas?

Vitello played at Missouri. I don't know why Arkansas fans are so convicned Vitello wants the Arkansas job any more than he'd want, say, the TCU job where he also coached.

Right, so it really doesn't make any sense to me they assume he would leave for the Arkansas job.

If you are at LSU baseball and having success then I don't see any reason to leave unless it's going back to home or some extremely nice city. It's not like they are going to want him if he isn't having success. And it's not like LSU wouldn't just match any pay offer.

Quick search says he is maybe from St. Louis? That is still over 5 hours away from them. No real advantage in location there.

Correct, he is from St. Louis and played at Missouri in college. He's had assistant coaching jobs at Missouri for 8 years, TCU for 4, Arkansas for 4, and now has been at Tennessee for 4 years. He left a job at his alma-mater for a better opportunity if that tells you anything about him and his career goals. He wouldn't take a job at a program like LSU and leave to go to Arkansas. Other than coaching there for a few years, he has no other ties to that partocular school.

I would be more worried about us passing on him and him taking Arky or Vandy when they open up if he's still not happy with Tenn. If we get him, I think Arky and Vandy still come calling but we would have 5-6 years to get him to fall in love here and show him what true support is.

These coaches aren’t going to do a sit down interview during a CWS run.
