To be fair coaching trees don't really have that many rules. All the guys attributed to Saban didn't start with Saban. Some credit Kiffin to the Saban tree when in fact he's from the Carroll tree. It's just a made up attribute by the media to build resumes. No real value attached to it.

He wasn’t even a coach on O’s staff so I would say he is disqualified. Most of the time they would have to be a coordinator with their first hire as such to be considered from the “tree”.
