re: Brian Kelly deserves a ton of credit

What’s weird is that the defense was not bad in his first year. It wasn’t dominant by any means but they were at least average and had stretches of being very good. Year 2 looked like he didn’t even try.
He had several very experienced players in key roles who were able to grasp his scheme. Also, remember we got two secondary transfers from Arkansas. They played zone almost exclusively at the time, so they were able to plug right in with House.
Last year House tried the same with a younger group who weren’t as familiar with zone, especially once we lost Brooks. He wasn’t capable of being flexible and it killed us.

Include Brad Davis in this. He’s a big reason. Kelly should be given credit for retaining him on staff.

Biggest thing he’s done for LSU is inherit 39 scholarship players and make us a respectable team again (not elite but understandably so). We avoided being a laughing stock and there are not many coaches who could’ve done that. He is absolutely an elite coach, despite what other teams say about “not winning the big game.” frick that. He’s a beast.
However, he squandered an insane offense last year and even though it was Matt House, the guy in charge is always responsible for his staff. Top 50 defense gets to the playoffs and maybe even a natty.
Now I’m worried we’re going to be a “next year” type team.

Man LSU has fallen, I remember when LSU fans felt 10-3 wasn't a good season

Not taking away anything from Kelly and co, but it sure helped having the 2 best tackles in the country in state. Was a great year for LA HS lineman.
If you want to look at it that way, the highest rated OL recruit that Kelley has signed was lost to the portal and they won't skip a beat.

Something with “king” in it. They are all Orgeron fluffers that shite on BK at every opportunity

The 2 best OL's (Campbell and Dellinger) were Orgeron and Cregg recruits. (Kelly can't take credit for those 2)
Dellinger will wind up being the Center this season.
Chester can't pass block and doesn't know the line calls well enough yet. (According to all the reports from practice)

I wonder if we had won a natty. Situation this year would be basically the same, but would the expectations?

Kelly so far hasn’t won shite
He took a team that went 6-7 the previous year and won the SEC West in his first year. Maybe that doesn't impress you. Maybe you're one of those retards that thinks he's supposed to win a NC every year and he sucks if he doesn't.

Here comes the jackass who pounded the Brad Davis sucks drum for an entire year until it just wasn’t possible anymore because of how well he’s performed to tell us all about the O Line
Campbell 100% would have been gone if O had remained another season with how things were going and might have left if we had made a different hire. Same with Jones. That class had to be salvaged and Kelly retaining Davis was likely a big determining factor in both staying committed. frick giving O any credit here, whatsoever. The only thing he accomplished before getting axed was putting what should have been a legacy lock commit in doubt while running the program into a sandbar.
How much money do you want to bet that Dellinger becomes the full time starter at Center? Just let us all know so we can take advantage of you.

It's 100% impressive, no one can really argue that. But at LSU, coaches are judged off of national championships, and he doesn't have one of those yet. At the end of the day, if he wins a natty, he will have been a success. If he doesn't, he will be a failure. Luckily, he still has 8 years left to accomplish that.

3 losses will be a joke for this team. If he loses 3 or more his seat better be warm
In all honesty, do you really anticipate the worst defense in school history to make THAT much improvement in one year under a brand new defensive staff??? I know they can't get much worse, but I don't anticipate they will make this drastic turn around.
I think they're still a huge question mark and probably the achilles heel to make a deep playoff or natty run.

Kelly kept Campbell and Jones here when he kept Brad Davis.
Just think where we could be if he had retained Baker, Raymond, and McMahon.
Maybe our defense and Special Teams would have been tops as well.

I don't know what to think, but everything out of practice is showing marked improvement. Tackling well, working together, getting sacks on our oline, turnovers in the secondary, stuffing the run repeatedly on goal line play.

As much as people shite on Polian for his Special Teams coaching (and it was really bad), we may not have won 6 games without him. Think back to just how critical that 22 portal class was. Scouting and recruiting the portal was his job that first offseason and he hit that out of the park. And just see how badly portal evals and recruiting fell off after he left.
Polian needed to go after year one, but it’s still a good thing we had him to help patch the roster.
I was out on Raymond like many here, but it would have been better if Kelly had just gotten assurances that culture rot wouldn’t be a problem and that he would step it up again and leave the complacency behind. Two years away probably was probably exactly what both him and LSU needed to get back together on the right foot.
I wouldn’t have been mad if Kelly had hired Baker, but that hire would have panned by most of the fanbase. He did a great job coaching LBs, but he was also coming off of being fired after a rough stint at Miami. That was likely due to Manny Diaz, but it still would have been hard for Kelly to justify not bringing in someone with a more successful track record out of the gate.

The big things the 247 and On3 podcasts have both called out are much better communication and understanding of the scheme. There aren’t busts all over the field. Guys aren’t 2nd guessing everything and playing slow because of it. Just fixing these two issues will bring a lot of improvement.

And inherited a shite roster that ed O f….. up! So shite your mouth!
Posted on 8/20/24 at 10:49 pm to LSBoosie
Multiple ? Which ones are multiple you idiot! They rehired one in Corey Raymond in which he probably should have kept! Blake baker wasn’t retained he was a linebackers coach and went to Missouri in which he did some great stuff there in his 2 year stint he learned what it takes to have a good defense in the sec and Kelly got him back so idk what munitions coaches you are talking about I see 2 . Bo Davis has not been around here in a min before he was hired get out of here with that!

I’ve been terribly disappointed before after glowing preseason hype and expectations so downvote away but I’m from Missouri………..show me.

Projections are just that, I reserve judgment until I see the team play
