I read that if LSU loses to UGA, it is likely that the Sugar Bowl would take Bama. That Tenn would go elsewhere even if they don’t make the playoffs. It was my understanding that the Sugar Bowl takes the highest ranked team in the SEC if they don’t make the playoffs.

Would the Sugar Bowl take Tenn over LSU or Bama if Tenn doesn’t make they playoffs or would they go to a different NY6 Bowl?

If Tenn makes the playoffs and LSU loses to UGA likely dropping them behind Bama in the rankings with 3 losses, would the Sugar Bowl take Bama as the highest ranked SEC team despite LSU finishing 3rd behind UGA and Tenn in the conference?

It’s way too early in the day and weeks before the end of the season to think about these scenarios.

Still too many variables at this point, but Cotton or Orange most likely.

If lsu loses to uga. It is better for lsu for uga and tenn to make the cfp.

It's determined by CFP ranking. From the SEC website:
quote:

The winner of the SEC Championship Game automatically qualifies for a spot in the Sugar Bowl if that team is not selected to participate in the four-team playoff. If the SEC Champion is selected to participate in the four-team playoff it will play in the Peach Bowl or Fiesta Bowl. The next highest-ranked SEC team not in the four-team playoff goes to the Sugar Bowl.

The Sugar Bowl doesn’t take anyone. The Sugar bowl is given the highest ranked SEC team not in the playoffs. They don’t have a say.

These 2 explanations seem to contradict themselves. I would think Sugar is first priority for “highest-ranked” team & then Orange.

quote:

If the SEC Champion is selected to participate in the four-team playoff it will play in the Peach Bowl or Fiesta Bowl. The next highest-ranked SEC team not in the four-team playoff goes to the Sugar Bowl.

quote:

When the Orange Bowl is not a semifinal game and a SEC team is the highest ranked team by the CFP Selection Committee among the non-champions of the SEC and Big Ten and ranked higher than Notre Dame after the CFP semifinal games have been filled, then that team will participate in the Orange Bowl.

I read this as well. Someone needs to explain to me how we move behind Bama in the rankings of we lose the SECC. We both have 2 losses as of now. SO if we lose, we have 3 losses but played an extra game against the #1 team in the country. It pisses me off to no end when teams get negatively affected by playing conference championship game. Win or lose, we should not fall behind Bama. I would say the same if the teams were reversed.

The Sugar Bowl has no choice in the matted. They get the highest ranked SEC team not involved in the playopp. That ruld doesn't apply with regard to the Big 12 team.

Sugar Bowl would take Alabama or Tennessee. It’s all about travel monies with hotels, restaurants, out of town fans spending money, For that reason they don’t want any team 70-80 miles away,

They would if they COULD. But those days are gone.

By rule and agreement, after the conference championship games are done and the rankings come out, they HAVE TO take the highest ranked SEC team not in the playoffs.

PERIOD.

What happens if LSU is dropped behind Bama and Ole Piss? Is that the kind of screwing we get because of freaking FSU?

That would be BS.

The thing hated most is whenever Notre Dame is taken ahead of your team. My favorite day of all during football season is any day that N.D. loses.

It’s going to be Tennessee assuming LSU loses to Georgia. If LSU beats Georgia then it’s still probably Tennessee.

Tennessee will remain ahead of LSU in the rankings unless LSU beats Georgia

Let BAMA have the Sugar Bowl.

It's NY Eve at 11 a.m.

Sucky time.

I thought the loser of the SEC Championship game is guaranteed the Citrus Bowl.
