"Play of the day: Kayshawn Boutte’s catch
A rookie who has come on strong lately after a relatively slow start is sixth-round pick Kayshawm Boutte from LSU.

He had a leaping one-handed catch on a pass from scout-team QB Malik Cunningham that drew ooohs and ahhhs from the crowd."

Team Belichick was the absolute best landing spot for Boutte.

I’m not sure Boutte had 6 total days of good practice his last year at LSU. Boutte’s problems have never been physical. The tools are all in place and easy for everybody to see. Maybe somebody finally had a talk with with him that touched his heart and the Kid got his head right. Good luck to this young man. Nobody likes seeing wasted talent.

He has the talent. If he gets his head on straight he could be the steal of the draft

I always liked him. However, he almost never made plays above his head. He was great in all other respects.

I think the combo of the kid coming, the injury, and maybe a bit of an attitude issue (maybe more than a bit but he did have a lot going on) skewed the back end of his LSU career. I was critical of all the time the coaches seemed to spend trying to get him involved when it looked like it wasn't happening but I truly hope he excels in the NFL. The potential is definitely there.

I'm going to say this once more, Butte has the talent. He has always had the talent. What he has lacked is motivation in the form of personal drive. If he gets his mind straight, he can do good things.

Hope he makes the team, but he is working with the scout team for a reason. There is a depth chart and he is way down it. JUJu and DeVante are 1/2. Thornton and Bourne will get the first look at #3 although the Pats will play 12 personnel a lot with Henry/Gesicki. The other rookie, Demario Douglas (also a 6th rounder) has supposedly looked good and more consistent. The Pats may also still bring in a free agent since they missed on Nuk.

With 53 man rosters, it is more likely than not that he gets cut and placed on the practice squad. If he does, I hope he sticks it out because if he works hard he can probably find a landing spot somewhere. I think the injury robbed Boutte of that burst we saw his first year and a half, so he will likley never be a star in the NFL. That said, most of us would love to have a carrer as an NFL back-up.

If any coach could get Boutte right, its CBB.

Agreed. Maybe going in the late rounds and having to actually battle for a spot has finally turned his work ethic around. Hope that’s the case for him and he turns into a weapon there.

It's amazing what some money will do for a man's work ethic.

I’d like to say him dropping from the 1st to the 6th round and losing millions of dollars and roster security humbled him.

This tweet says he’s been getting some reps with the first team as well.

I still believe he wasn't fully recovered last year. He just lost that explosiveness coming out of the cuts. His straight ahead speed was fine, but those cuts set him apart and it is often 2 years till those fully return.

Hoping for the best.
