We could have gotten out of that inning with little to no damage. Between the shift hurting us twice, Thompson’s dropped tag, Catcher interference, and Dugas not laying out for the 2 run single… it seems like we had a every single thing go against Skenes in one inning. Skenes really wasn’t bad. The HBP didn’t hit the body; correct call but chicken shite. He got legit bad calls on a walk and no help from the defense at all.

Batter 1 HBP (only hit the elbow guard)
Batter 2 Single due to shift but possible a DP without shift
Batter 3 Single (easy out without shift (maybe DP) then Thompson drop the tag at second (1 run)
Batter 4 single 10 pitch AB (1 run)
Batter 5 fly out to center
Batter 6 BB threw 4 legit strikes, maybe 5
Batter 7 pop out to Dugas

Bases loaded but score is 2-2 when he leaves the game. Cooper in

Batter 8 catcher interference. Run scores
Batter 9 single through Dugas. (2 runs in)
Batter 10 4-3

I needed this.. makes me feel a lot better about Skenes. At the time it was shell shocking to watch him look human for once. But this breakdown makes me realize a lot wasnt on him.

They wore Dugas out that inning. His range is putrid

I love Dugas but it’s tough watching him there. He cost us two runs that inning.

Also, had that been a regional/Super/Omaha game, no way we pull Skenes in that situation.

Probably end the inning with a Skenes K and a 2-2 game

Some of it is positioning half of the time and limited range. I have been saying since the first week he has limited range but got down voted to death. I like Dugas but since his injury he has not been the same at the plate. Unfortunately it is what it is and we really have no other options. He still gets on base better than Nippolt who is a better defender.

I think this is a good point. No way Skenes is getting pulled there even with bases loaded in that situation with his pitch count.

I also doubt Arky would pull Smith at his pitch count either.

But, and this is my opinion, and Jay said in post-game presser, Arky threw their two best pitchers against us - in the SECCT yesterday and back in March.

That should not be understated IMO.

It's like us throwing Skenes, Floyd in the same game.

The HBP was correct call. Whether it hits the body, jersey, guard, it's a HBP.

Everyone knows Dugas has limited range. Quit admiring yourself.

After seeing this board fellate Skenes alls season I was really surprised when I saw how pedestrian his repetoire was. He can throw hard but thats the long and short of it. They were all over him hitting balls hard.

Dugas not laying out for the 2 run single

Yes, let’s lose our starting second baseman again in a meaningless game we weren’t even trying to win.
SEC tournament is the equivalent of the non-playoff bowls—an exhibition that will have no bearing on the eventual champion. Surprised we have not seen players opting out yet.

Was better to have an outing like this from Skenes now then in the Regionals or Supers. And I like how Cooper performed yesterday in relief. The interference is what it is. But the base running mistake by Travinski was what made me more angry. If he doesn't get out there then we get a sac fly the next batter and Crews ties the game in the 9th.

While Skenes was not his normal dominant self, I was impressed with the way the arky batters fouled off pitches until he did make a mistake. Then they hammered them. Especially in that 4th.

Not saying coulda woulda shoulda, just tip of the hat to some of those at bats that the hogs had.

By battling, Ark got his count to 3-2 and he was forced to throw a hit table pitch

Skenes threw mostly fastballs all game. That didn’t help. I wish JJ would have challenged HBP. Arm guard was loose and probably would have been overturned IMHO. Great recap on the inning. +1

Lsu didn't play very well. Skenes looked like he got roughed up, but I doubt it happens again. Mental errors is what did us in. I just want to see error free baseball today. We're gonna be out of pitching before the championship game anyway. Just a good solid outing would be nice.
