Brian Kelly was lazy with the OC position hire. The offense played scared the second half like they were just trying not to lose. You can't be like that, you have to stay aggressive you have to keep your foot on their throat not on your own. I don't know the exact stats but I'd like to see the amount of balls that Nuss threw down field more than 10 yd. I think they tried to make him something he is not. Nuss has a great arm and can push the ball 30 40 50 yards down the field. They didn't use that at all they didn't call any plays to support that. Brian Kelly and the coaches failed and so did the lazy coaching staff hire on offense thats the problem.

He sits there and talks about players having killer instinct, what about the coaches Where's the killer instinct plays in the play calling. It was bland vanilla shite and USC was prepared for it.

Maybe nuss didn’t push it down the field and checked down all night. Just a thought. We had deep routes all night

OR NUSS had the Jayden Daniels “not throw int” disease. That is on him not trusting his receivers. The plays were there and I saw receivers running open downfield. Then you’re also trying to shorten the game some for your defense. That is what complimentary football is and if your Oline is getting their shite pushed in from being fooled, what the frick are you going to run?

He was overthinking his handling of Nuss and never really let the guy play

Nuss played really well but if I was gonna knock him on anything it’s not pushing the ball down the field much.

I fully expect that to get better as he gets more comfortable w his guys.

Nuss was arguably the best player on the field for us last night. USC played deep safeties the whole night, which limits the deep ball. That’s not the answer. The OC did fine except for the strategy to try to run the clock out against the beat offensive coach in the country with 9 minutes still left. And I’m not sure that was his call.

304 yards with 2 touchdowns is not terrible.

The Co-OC route was/is a huge red flag. That's twice Kelly has mismanaged a coordinator hire.

Yea the killer instinct has to also be there with the play calling. The absolute stubborn need to run the ball when it was not working is what I feel lost the game.

They really need to trust Nuss more than they do.

He's talking about the second half adjustment that completely abandoned what was working for them so that they can run up the middle into a loaded box. It was scared play-calling. USC threw deep balls. Some of the deep balls were successful and the others we got dinged for pass interference.

This what I hate about all these unknowns in a game 1 against a good team. Now we have 4 straight games where we should win them all and hopefully Nuss gets better at taking control of the game. This felt more bittersweet than 2022 FSU because we had the game even with those bone headed discipline mistakes.

I agree - most of the short passes in the second half were check downs, when receivers were possibly getting open down field.

The inability, or unwillingness, to extend the play by scrambling, erases a lot of downfield opportunities. He had zero scrambles last night - one progression read, then dump off. Even if the receiver was 3 yards short on third down. I'd rather see him scramble and take a loss on third, than just settle for a sure punt with a dump off way short of the marker. This may not be on the coaches, or play calling.

I agree with both statements. I was so mad in the 4th because I saw the script playing out just like it did. We had control of the game and let it go.

People on here were trumpeting Nuss play last night and it was good but he did not perform in the game winning situation. We have all seen him loft it downfield in previous games and he had a dismal pass metric of average air distance of passes. It was less than 5 yds.

No, it's definitely on the QB you irrationally hate.

Kelly at the start of the second half was interviewed and basically said we had to run the ball to win. It was reminiscent of Les sticking to his offensive scheme of plowing into a stacked defensive line over and over again. One would think after multiple failures you would stop being an idiot and try something else. Kelly and his offensive coaching is the Achilles heel and there has to be better game planning or this is going to be a long and miserable season. Damn, when you need 7 yards for a first down, why are you not throwing beyond the first down markers.
