NOLA correct ? Been to his N.O. house dozens of times and a HS classmate of his son who lives in BR. For his son's b-day parties, Mr. Pettit would drive us to BR, we would have lunch, and then go watch an LSU basketball game. Great family and very genuine, down to earth. As a teenager, I was in awe at all the basketball memorabilia from Mr. Pettit ... team jerseys, MVP awards, plaques, basketball nets, pictures with BB legends, signed basketballs, trophies, NBA HOF trophy, etc .... His trophy room was small and simple, just taking up one side of a wall in an upstairs play room, nothing extravagant.

I never saw him play
Do you always answer your own questions?

That is the reason.
Heck you have to be about 80 years old, or older to have seen him play.

I saw him play when he was with the St. Louis Hawks and a dominant force in the NBA. He was a great player and a huge asset for LSU

When Pettit retired from the NBA, he was the career leader in points and rebounds.
He's still ranked 44th and 18th in those career stats.

I played golf with him at a BRHS alumni (Petit graduated from BRHS) tournament when I was still in H.S. I shook his hand and his hand wrapped all the way around mine. That was a tall fellow.

Because your father probably wasn’t born when he was playing.

I stood by him in line in the cramped area near the concession stand at Neyland stadium in 2001. My brother said “that is a tall old man! “His friend heard us and said “that’s Bob Pettit.”

Because 95% of the people on here were not alive by the time he retired from the nba

While they weren’t in the same class, his time at Baton Rouge High overlapped with Jim Taylor, who himself was a good HS basketball player.

I’m 77&7/12 yo. I saw him on one of our 3 channels several times. Especially playing Russell/ Cousy in the playoffs. He would have scored more, but he played with Cliff Hagen, a big star from Kentucky, who used to shoot a lot. This led to Pettit’s rebounds. Lol

when I was at LSU the NBA was celebrating some big milestone and had train going around the country as sort an NBA museum display, it was parked on the tracks near campus for almost a week so everyone could go see the display, I don’t know if he was acting as sort of a docent or not, but he was out there every time we went and was a joy to meet and talk to
ETA: now that I think about it, that train may had to do with the bicentennial celebration
