I don’t even really have a dog in this fight, but I feel like this is one of those statements that’s very hypocritical because most people do this. Yes, even you madking.

He's expressing an opinion regarding LSU football. This isn't just an echo chamber where a bunch of homers discuss how everything is sunshine and roses regarding LSU football, whether some of you want it to be or not.

This might be the dumbest stat ever.

How many D1 coaches stay a head coach for over 21 years?

Right. It’s meaningless without more data. So let’s get more data.

There are only 3 active FBS head coaches who have gone 21+ years without a national title, out of 134 FBS programs. So 2.24% of current FBS coaches fall into the category OP referenced.

OP says FBS head coaches with 21+ years experience and no titles have won 1 out of the last 40 national championships. That’s 2.50% of championships.

So 2.24% of coaches have won 2.5% of championships? That would mean a head coach with 21+ years and no titles is actually 12% more likely to win a championship in a given year than a coach from the rest of the field.

(In reality it’s probably not statistically significant either way.)

This is a weird "end all, be all".

lol yeah you say that the year after Saban retires and Harbough goes to the NFL and Jimbo Fisher loses his job. Just last year, it was 6 coaches.

This team MIGHT lose another game this year. Furthermore, you guys keep adding these absolutely meaningless bowl games to Brian Kelly's record. This isn't the BCS era and these bowl games dont even have all the starters in them anymore.

Brian Kelly (2022-Present)
2022: 9-3

2023: 9-3

2024: 6-3 (so far)

Total: 24-9

Ed Orgeron (2016-2021)
2016: 6-2 (interim head coach)

2017: 9-3

2018: 9-3

2019: 12-0

2020: 5-5

2021: 6-6

Total: 47-19

Les Miles (2005-2016)
2005: 10-2

2006: 10-2

2007: 11-2

2008: 7-5

2009: 9-3

2010: 10-2

2011: 13-0

2012: 10-2

2013: 9-3

2014: 8-4

2015: 8-3

2016: 2-2 (fired mid-season)

Total: 107-34

LSU hasn't been a "true" 10 win school since Miles. You guys keep going bakc to this "10 win" ... when its really not. It's been a perrenial 9-3 school since Miles.

Well well also had Ed freaking Orgeron and Les Miles during those years. The point is that LSU SHOULD be a 10-win team every season based on several factors, including us being the only major program in a talented recruiting state.

Stats can be twisted to be deceiving. So we have 3 nattys in football in your time period of 40 years. How many schools have won 4 championships in the 40 years? The answer is one. Using your logic, does that mean we have little chance of winning another regardless of coach?

That’s just your bias showing.

You mean to tell me that you have no personal biases? Everything you say comes from a completely neutral and informed thought?

I doubt it. Get over yourself

That isn’t what I implied or said at all. You’re making shite up, my argument is exactly because we all have biases so we need universal standards instead of what people like you do which is twist a term like “context” into a double standard, infinite excuse that only applies to your bias.

I'm truly glad this site was not this popular during the saban era. The great Saban took over a roster with more talent than Kelly did and lost 5 games in year 3. Brian Kelly has his flaws as does every coach but he has done a decent job considering the program he took over. This WAS NOT the LSU program that Miles or O inherited.
2020=5-5
2021= 6-7
2022=10-4 SEC west title 15th final ranking
2023= 10-3 Heisman Winner 12th final ranking
2024 = incomplete

Anyone claiming Kelly should be fired with those results after the program he took over needs to ask themselves.," what decent coach is coming here knowing they won't get 3 full seasons to right a dumpster fire before the fans want him fired"?

This type of fan has helped create what current Nebraska is.

Kelly is 2.5 years into a massive rebuild at the program we all love. I could understand these types of threads if we were finishing the season unranked or having .500 or worse seasons every year he has been here,but that's not the case. We are financially bound to Kelly for at least the next 3 years. He has a massive class that is on the horizon. Constantly shitting on a coach that IS NOT going anywhere can only do harm to the program we love. And again.... in no way has his first 2 years been close to bad or even average compared to what he inherited....

Exactly. Also, Penn St hasn’t won one since 1986.

God this is so stupid. Okay, go ahead and don’t offer competitive contracts to candidates and enjoy being labeled as the school that lowballs and never lands anyone of significance.
Are we could have gotten a lesser known up and comer. That if they didn’t perform wouldn’t have cost much to get rid of. Instead we stuck with Kelly and $60-70 mil buyout. We did good, everyone thinks highly of us.

I remember when people clamored for Napier too.

Keep in mind though, a big criticism of Kelly is he hasn't won a championship, and yet we should've hired an unknown?

9 regular season wins. Bowl games are a shadow of what they used to be if you don't make the playoffs.

He's a 9 win coach, not a 10 win coach. There's a significant difference between a 9 and 10 win regular season. This is year 3 and LSU is probably going to finish worse than the previous two years.

This is the rant in a nutshell. This place would have rioted had we gone cheap and hired someone unknown. The fanbase would be ready to burn down Woodward’s office if and when that hire turned bad and had to be canned. Why don’t you let the grown ups make the decisions and you sit back and enjoy.
