BK did have a good point in his presser.

Teams are still really trying to stop us from running the ball. Nuss has feasted in part thanks to this.

He will continue to put up gaudy stats until they let up in the box a little. I don't think we've seen true balance yet but teams also haven't taken a balanced approach against us.

The O line got a LOT of hype to start the year and I think teams still fear it.

Truly amazing how we can go from Jefferson, Lee, Jennings, and Harris

To

Burrow
Daniels
Nuss
(Underwood)

Honestly Myles Brennan was well on his way to being the truth at LSU too, but injuries derailed him. I almost feel 100% about the QB position going into any given season now for LSU.

Brennan’s career is so unfortunate

Fr: True Freshmen in shitty offense
So: Joe Burrow
Jr: Joe Burrow
Sr: Injury
Sr 2: Injury
Sr 3: Jayden Daniels

2 Heisman winners and 2 injuries.

He’s got to be the most unlucky football player of all time.

1,100 yards and 11 TD’s through 3 games to start the 2020 season tells me, Brennan would have been a great QB too. LSU probably goes better than 5-5 in 2020 as well, although Max played great that season.

Jayden Daniels probably never comes to LSU without injury to Brennan, so I guess you can’t have it all. Brennan will always have my respect.

the injuries are what allowed him to play a 6th year.

even with covid he had 2 medical redshirt I think.

Because if we establish the run our recievers will rip them apart over the top. They would rather us dink and dunk them to death than play action shred them with 1 deep shots.

Have to disagree with BK on this one. We get a fair amount of even boxes where the number of blockers equals the number of defenders in the box. We mostly still haven’t been able to run well against these, although it’s gotten better the past two weeks.

I can neither prove nor disprove that without rewatching the games, So I have to assume you are both right

Our game with the best rushing average was the first game, Here are the numbers.

USCw - 25 carries, 113 yards, 4.5 ypc, long of 39 yards (Emery)

Nicholls - 21 carries, 68 yards, 3.2 ypc, long of 12 yards (Williams & Nuss)

USCe - 32 carries, 132 yards, 4.1 ypc, long of 26 yards (Durham)

UCLA - 28 carries, 102 yards, 3.6 ypc, long of 23 yards (Williams)

For the year - 106 carries, 415 yards, 3.9 ypc

Individual

Josh Williams RB - 36 carries, 134 yards, 3.7 ypc, long of 23 yards

Caden Durham RB - 22 carries, 116 yards, 5.3 ypc, long of 26 yards

Kaleb Jackson RB - 26 carries, 95 yards, 3.7 ypc, long of 19 yards

John Emery Jr. RB - 10 carries, 61 yards, 6.1 ypc, long of 39 yards

Zavion Thomas WR - 2 carries, 17 yards, 8.5 ypc, long of 12 yards

Rickie Collins QB - 2 carries, 4 yards, 2 ypc, long of 3 yards

Ju'Juan Johnson S - 2 carries, 1 yards, 0.5 ypc, long of 1 yards

Garrett Nussmeier QB - 4 carries, -11 yards, -2.8 ypc, long of 12 yards

Just the stats, draw your own conclusions.

The o line has been phenomenal as a unit pass blocking. The best I've ever seen. That's their strength. I have a hard time saying they've been disappointing just based on that. I'd like to know what pff ranks us in run blocking, in pass blocking it's gotta be high.

This seems a little backward. The defenses are (apparently) favoring run-stop already. If we established a run game it wouldn’t change their tactic.

I don't know if he would have been able to make the leep to even be in the same conversation as JB9 or JD5. The thing that set these men aside is the work in the off-season before their final years here. Due to his injuries I doubt he would have had the opportunity to make that next step.

Theres no doubt he had a ton of unrealized potential and sometimes bad luck just doesn't allow you to take full advantage of an opportunity.

so in a way, we should all be thanking Max Johnson for transferring, Max doesn’t say bye-bye no Jayden Daniels amazing how things work out

The O-Line hasn’t been perfect in the run game but some of the blame can be placed on our running backs too! In our running scheme a back has to show patience and wait for a hole to open. He can’t just be full throttle downhill.

The improvements I see are the backs having more patience and putting a foot in the ground when the hole opens.

We will see how teams adjust defensively once Chris Hilton is back healthy. His vertical threat just presents different difficulties for defenses so i would expect there to be either a lot more plays open down the field or the run game to start popping because of the safeties staying deeper.

The only guy more fricked than Brennan is Walker Howard, but I have no clue why he chose to leave sitting behind Jaden Daniels to sitting behind Dart. You'd think he would at least transfer somewhere where he was good enough to start

I'm pretty sure these players faced the same defenses.
Yet, both Durham and Emery average almost 50% more yards per carry.

I wonder what the difference is.
