Would I want LSU to miss the postseason altogether? No, no I wouldn't. But this is a retarded hypothetical because it presumes that Simmons' awesome performance and production was somehow the cause of LSU's failure that season. Would I take a player with Simmons skill set again knowing he'd only be here a year? Of fricking course and anyone who says otherwise is a joke and their opinions should be laughed at accordingly.

So as a 18/19 year old first year in college you expect him to take over and win every game? Do you even watch sports? How often do true freshmen in college basketball take over and win every close game for their team? The guy as a TRUE FRESHMAN goes 28/17 in a game and you're complaining that he didn't "take over". OR he didn't take a final shot in a game he went 21/20 in (his 4th EVER collegiate game)? That's how ridiculous you sound.

I never said I expect ANY player to take over and win EVERY game. You're intentionally misrepresenting my argument.

What I DO expect from an elite player (the freaking no. 1 NBA pick) is for him to DEMAND the ball in crunch time and do his best to TAKE OVER AND LEAD his team. It won't always work (hell, Lebron and Jordan missed plenty of game winners) but they DON'T HIDE IN CRUNCH TIME. Hell, MJ hit the jumper to win the national championship as a true freshman at UNC (and I was in the Dome to see it).

Truly great players don't just pile up stats -- they LEAD, especially when the game is on the line. And I didn't see that from Simmons.

This is one of the stupidest hypotheticals I've ever seen. This would be like saying "If Lebron James wanted to come to the Pelicans, but it meant you wouldn't make the NBA Playoffs, would you take him still" - jesus christ

How'd we do this year? Do you think that we'd be a better or worse team without Simmons (and via Simmons, AB)?

You're against ones and dones...So you're basically against college basketball in the current form.

Which is fine, since it is 100% flawed, but that in no way is the player's fault. Personally, give me a Ben Simmons, Anthony Davis, LeBron James type talent any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Supplement the elite talent you get with the 3-4 year role players... Problem is that you have to actually develop those players.

No, your argument is a TRUE FRESHMAN in basketball should be expected to take over at the end and take every final shot, regardless if he's a poor shooter, which he is, or regardless if he's a mediocre free throw shooter, which he also is. So basically, because he was so good throughout a game, you think in a small vacuum of an opportunity, in a specific situation not setup well for him, he should still be the one to get it done for you.

Does this not make sense to you? It's ludicrous to expect a guy in his situation to step up at the end and always take the final shot and expect great results. He was young, he's not the kind of guy to give you a great chance in that situation...so why blame him for doing what he probably SHOULD have done, which is delegate it to someone better?

This idea you can only be a great player if you hit a game winning shot is ridiculous. How many game winning shot did Shaq make?

Yep, his best skillset was wasted outside of Hornsby and somewhat Blakeney down the stretch.

Would have been fun to watch with a coach who actually preached defense. That's how you get into transition

big number, but those are hollow stats.

His numbers were better in conference play also, if we are putting all the evidence on the table.

AS for translating into wins, that's ridiculous. It's a team sport - and with Hornsby in and out of the lineup with injuries and TQ having free reign to shoot 30% from 3pt range in SEC play like he's the 2nd coming of Kobe - even Simmons wasn't going to save this ship.

After the OU game where he went 5/5 from 3, Quarterman shot 28% from 3. In the 5 game stretch where the wheels fell off, he shot under 20%

Woof

Averaged over 5 three point attempts per game. His biggest issue, imo, was that his defense went to shite when his offense sucked

Isnt the ultimate goal to make the playoffs though? Can you win the NBA Championship without making the playoffs? Maybe there's a new rule in effect that I've missed some where.

Our point was your hypothetical was stupid to begin with. So every time a team takes Ben Simmons you're bound to fail? Dumb.

Again, would have been like saying "Would you take Lebron James if you know you wouldn't make the playoffs" - the year after his rookie NBA where the Cavs went 35-47 and missed the playoffs.

Your cause and effect is waaayyyyyyyyyyyyyy off.
