True freshmen, especially no. 1 NBA picks, can take over games and lead their teams. Happens all the time.

Still can't shoot a lick.

did I say I hated the kid? Guess you're a mind reader huh? You like to come wading in like king shite with your know it all attitude.
I dont like one and dones....thats my point. I dont like kids playing for LSU who dont want to show any loyalty to the program.

big number, but those are hollow stats.
Yes, his numbers (in a vacuum) were very good, but they didn't translate into wins, and he shied away from taking over games when his team desperately needed it. Maybe there was a game or two where he did (Vandy on the road was one, I recall) but far, far too often I had to actually look hard to see if he was on the floor. And I'm not kidding.
So yes, great numbers, but they didn't lead to anything.

It is sadly the mindset of some around here.

Yeah that selfish a-hole should have stayed back and played another year for Johnny Jones. Who cares if he was the #1 overall pick and makes more money than in your wettest of wet dreams?

You are full of absolute crap.
Most of the venom spewed occurred after he left.....and it was directed more at JJ for wasting his talent than directly at him.

Only one coach in America would put an entire team in a situation where its best player's stats wouldn't translate into wins.

The "freshman" excuse doesn't work in basketball. True freshmen, especially no. 1 NBA picks, can take over games and lead their teams. Happens all the time.
So as a 18/19 year old first year in college you expect him to take over and win every game? Do you even watch sports? How often do true freshmen in college basketball take over and win every close game for their team? The guy as a TRUE FRESHMAN goes 28/17 in a game and you're complaining that he didn't "take over". OR he didn't take a final shot in a game he went 21/20 in (his 4th EVER collegiate game)? That's how ridiculous you sound.
quote:
And he can't shoot a jumper, so I wouldn't expect him to launch an 18-footer for the win, but his game is getting to the rim, so GET TO THE RIM, and either finish or draw a foul. He was a decent free throw shooter, so get to the line.
And how often do you see game ending shots being around the rim? Hardly ever because the refs swallow their whistles, so teams can usually just hack away at anyone trying to get to the rim with little time remaining. This is why you see so many jump shots in close games as a final shot...it's not worth relying on the refs to blow the whistle to give you a chance. Even then, he wasn't a good free throw shooter (67% isn't good), so why would you want a guy like that to go to the line and win it for you? So basically because he had great games, you expect in crunch time a guy who cant shoot and is a 67% FT shooter to take the last shot or get to the FT line and win it for you (not to mention is a true freshman)? That's ridiculous.

Have you actually read this very thread in which you're currently posting?

Not his fault.

Again, not his fault.

Somebody else needed to step up, that's not his role nor should it have been. He's NOT A SHOOTER, nor a good FT shooter, so why would you want him taking crunch time shots? Makes absolutely no sense.

Densemuch.....I just said I don't like them.
If you had a kid coming in that you knew would put up the same numbers as BS but would only stay a year...and produce a similar team record, would you take him?

And LeBron James had the same criticism at a much older age and with NBA experience. It comes with the skillet and maturity

How am I dense? Especially when you follow it with this:

A good coach should be able to turn That into a tourney team with ease
That isn't the player's fault.
How about this year's team with zero one and dones? What a blast that was to watch!
Talk about dense.

I would fire the coach that can only get mediocre results with a player putting up those numbers.
