He doesn't understand the economics of major college football I assume. Or, he's basically saying O is laughably overpaid.

There are thousands of BS professors that LSU could hire to teach geology 101, but there are very few coaches that can win a NC.

And in some cases the damn TA might as well be teaching those classes.

And this is the clown who is at practice.

I agree with him that some coaches are overpaid.
I think we need to be paying O about $400k per year based on his market value. So he's right in a sense. LSU is overpaying some of its coaches, but not due to the reason he gives. Throw Nikki Fargas in there too.

But I disagree with his politics. Capitalism is a beautiful thing.

Oh, this again.

It says a lot about the state of Louisiana that the state leaders:

1. Continually call the constituents stupid.

2. Don't feel they are capable of properly educating the constituents on a VERY simple concept.

quote:

“And what about those faculty members at LSU and elsewhere who haven’t had a raise of any size in many, many years and they’re seeing what’s happening in athletics?”

Tell them to go get better paying jobs in a different field if they are so unhappy? Perhaps coaching?

He is the one at the table with the best platform to let the general public know that LSU athletics is self-funded and runs an annual net surplus back to the university.

You actually shouldn't be concerned at all because it doesn't fricking concern you given that tax dollars aren't being spent.

"Everybody at this table knows that those are not taxpayer dollars but the general public doesn’t necessarily know that,"

And? The ignorance of some changes the substantive nature of the matter how? This is basically admitting you are more concerned with political optics than an objective discussion of TRUTH.

What about them? Go on, explain the dilemma and how the two are linked. It's more convenient not too though given you clearly acknowledged the difference a few sentences up.

LA politics gonna LA politic.

If it’s private funds paying salaries and buyouts, why does he feel it’s his business to comment on?

I’m glad everyone in the state that didn’t vote for Vitter got the man they wanted.

yeah I'd have no issue just generally stating our priorities are a bit out of whack and pay for coaches is getting obscene...but wanting them capped because you feel people are too dumb to separate private and public money, including professors? Well if LSU is hiring professors that can't grasp that concept, we've got a whole other issue

The only issue with coaches being paid too much is that the players aren't getting paid anything.

So unless Edwards is going to lead a fight against the corruption in the NCAA, I'd prefer he stick to worrying about how the state is spending our tax dollars rather than how private citizens are spending their disposable income.

He's right. Salaries have gotten way out of control. There's no reason college head coaches should be making as much as they do. I don't necessarily agree that any legislation should be passed to stop because I think that bubble is eventually going to burst at some point.

I voted for him because frick bible thumping Louisiana republicans
