Does Sean Payton make to much , how about Drew Brees ? Stick to running the state into the ground .

It's not an unreasonable position. Particularly for a "have-not" trying to run with the "haves".
Very socialist "not fair" view from you.
All athletic depts should self- sustain or die and that tax money could be spent on academics.

If you're so worried about have-nots, you should buy their tickets, concessions and gear.

Any 'program' that caps salaries might as well demote itself to third rate status. No way to get the best coaches with salary caps.

Ok Governor Honor Code, but first you put a cap on the Super PACs that get set up for you and other politicians every election season by the same private dollars that are paying these coaching salaries. Keeping those war chests full is becoming an arms race that’s gotten out of control.

At least he's a responsible adult and not a complete incompetent childlike buffoon like Bobbie Jindal proved to be.

Ah yes, I must have forgotten when the "invisible hand of the marketplace" limited teams to exactly 83 scholarship players per year with no more than exactly 25 of them added to the team in any given year. Hooray Freedom!!!!

Edit: I just saw that somehow you apparently think "have-nots" refers to individuals who are poor; I didn't think I would have to spell it out, but the "have-not" here would be LSU, a school located in a poor state that does not have as many wealthy alumni (in number or in wealth) as some other schools.

Can no one read? This is not a self-imposed cap for Louisiana.

Edwards thinks it would be a good idea for each and every team to have a certain spending cap. Like the NFL does. And the NHL. And the NBA. And MLB.

You may disagree with the concept of a league-wide salary cap, but it's not something unheard of in American sports.

Drew Brees' salary is indeed limited by a salary cap.

I don’t believe that there should be a cap on coaches’ salaries. But there SHOULD be a cap on idiotic Frankfurt school Marxist governor salaries plus a one-term limit.

Besides the Saints and Pelicans are private businesses...

Even if LSU was self sufficient, football still sucks up resources that could be used elsewhere...

And while we're on this subject, the other schools in LA aren't immune... ULL Tech and ULM need those caps as well or drop themselves down to the lower division

It's 85 scholarship players per year limit, and not a state subsidy dude.

Oh, if only LA govt could do half as well in profitability as LSU athletics in this unprosperous state.

LSU athletics (especially football) generates income. Think of a good HC as a good ROI. I think studies show that what Saban earns pales compared to what he generates from their success.

There needs to be a cap! Let’s just say we give a coach 8 million based off current revenues. But what happens when viewership goes down and tv contracts are up for renewal and there’s a recession. Those contracts might now be so generous and donations might shrink. But we are still obligated to those contracts.

So, I wonder if this is connected in any way with O "only" making $3.5M/yr and the fact that O invites him to practices, etc.

In other words, is this just political cover for O? Sort of like saying, "it would just be obscene hiring any coach you want, you know like any coach who has a credible shot at a championship."

I saw someone post that Alabama's football program brought in north of $150M in revenue last year. So, paying Saban $7M/yr to generate about $150M is obscene?

How much revenue did LSU generate last year? Assuming it was about $90M, just for the sake of argument, how is Saban's salary "obscene" but O's is acceptable?

For a $7M investment, Alabama generated over $150M in revenue. Isn't that a good investment (assuming a corresponding healthy profit)?

So, does Edwards propose to pass a state law to cap Louisiana coaches salaries? Why should we agree to that?
