I’ve followed the threads through fall and it sounds like we have the infield locked in with the exception of catcher.
For the group that has followed the team closely, how do y’all think OF looks opening night? We have a ton of talent and experience out there, it’ll be interesting to see how it’s managed.
whoever hits will stick plain and simple

Did Hernandez see anytime in the OF in the fall? He knocked the cover off the ball at Indiana St.

Agree. Seems to be CJJ's MO.

Not that I can tell, only C and 1B which are the only two that make sense in my opinion.

Outside of Jones, that could be an issue for this year's team if you're going to nitpick, but I think Brown has the frame and ability to be a 15+ HR guy.

Agree Brown is too toolsy to DH unless they plan to pitch him and Jay wants to take a load off on
the weekend for that
Larson is the worst fielder of the group imo. He should DH before the others unless we’re facing a righty and Jay wants to load up with lefties in the order

Curiel cf, Larson, rf Pearson lf but the I think the roster could vary depending on the opposing pitcher and who’s bringing the wood to the dish

Frey and Priester need to come alive to add thump in the lineup

I’ll take the CF who has hit Sec pitching over somebody who hasn’t all day.
How much have you seen Curiel play so far? Be honest.

Curiel actually outplayed Stanfield in the fall but that's no knock on Stanfield who looked good. Curiel is very baseball savy from what I can see. He seems to have instincts that even some upperclassmen don't possess. Curial will get plenty of playing time this year.

If they can hit for average and drive in runners that are in scoring position then they'll be fine.

Does Johnson start Stanfield (he didn't come here to sit)?
If I had to bet on it I wouldn't put any money on the corner OF positions but I would throw big money on Stanfield starting in CF day 1.
Jay speaks very highly of him and feels there is another level of his game he can reach. Also he is the only OF who played every fall scrimmage in the same position which was CF. Pretty confident he will be day 1 CF.
Not so confident but I think Larson will be in LF and Brown in RF. I love Curiel and think he will get into the lineup, but if we are talking strictly opening day I won't put him in the lineup. He will start one of the opening weekend games I would bet though.

You got one, possibly two of the positions correct. 1B and C.
It seems like Milam will start at SS and Braswell at 3B. Don't think Brown will be in CF. Pearson may start game 1, but he will have to play his way into an every day spot.

OF is going to be a helluva juggling job for Jay but the best news is we got great options there.
Stanfield hard to see not starting with his experience already in the SEC, being a CF type and the belief Jay has in him to find that little bit extra. I would say he seems to be most locked in for now.
Curiel is the most intriguing prospect simply because he dominated the fall. Hit .378 with a team leading .541 OBP while managing to strikeout just 10% of his PA and hitting 5 XBH in 61 PA. He may not open the season as a starter, but if he continues this run in winter practice leading up to the start of the season I just dont know how you keep him off the field. Those are ridiculous numbers for not just anyone but for someone from high school entering college and immediately doing that against our kind of pitching is a huge promising sign.
Larson and Brown are definitely the next 2 you look at and wonder if both will start and if they do would both be in the OF? Not sure, but they obviously both have great potential. Brown has untapped power I think and focusing more on hitting than double duty this time around would do him good. He hit .411 this fall with 8 XBH in 61 PA including 2 dingers. Larson really struggled in the fall unfortunately (sub .200 avg) but he put up decent numbers for a true freshman this past season so cant just look past that.
Josh has TONS of experience but he feels like the least "talented" if you will of most of our outfielders now, but the dude has just come up clutch for you so many times in the past when things mattered. It wouldnt surprise me at all to still see him start a bunch of games but it also wouldnt surprise me if he became a plug and play guy at a number of positions and sees more time that way throughout the season.
Frey can solve a power issue if we have one within the OF as he should be finally healthy. Jay has always kept him in his back pocket and always talked him up. At 6'5 230 the dude should have some big power numbers, flat out.
Beck seems like a lot are counting out but the dude hit .377 last season with 20 doubles, 18 dingers in just 57 games so he can still bring something to the table with his experience and big bat.

After that misplay to end the season he probaly doesn't see the field again. Too risky
so one error as a true freshman determines that he should never play again in the outfield despite him being your most athletic guy, one of the better OFers overall last year as a TF and has been one of your best hitters??
Come on Ryno, horrible take

I think we're going to see a lot of substitutions in the OF in the first month of the season. And a lot of different lineups.
Hernandez will probably DH when he's not catching. So if he's catching, that would open the DH spot for Beck or Frey.
Stanfield and Curiel (and probably Brown) are guys that likely won't DH and will only be in the lineup if they're also in the field.

They have so many DH options they can go to. Obviously not a bad thing. I think Priester may be a leading candidate to get plenty DH looks. Too much power not to find a way to get him in the lineup for opportunities. That is if he doesn't improve defensively and end up winning the full time job behind the plate later in the season. Seems Hernandez is in the lead for that spot right now IMO.
