There is a legit threat for a sliding player when spikes are involved. There is something available to help prevent one, but not the other.

You've never crashed your plane, those safety devices are a waste of space and weight. We don't need them, until we need them.

Just complain about the water down drinks or cold hot dogs and leave the game alone.

The mits do looked stupid but before the mitts baserunners would hold their batting gloves in their hands so they wouldn’t extend fingers and jam them into the bag.

They wear them on their throwing hand. Not 100%, but I’m pretty sure the mitt started when one of our players got his throwing hand stepped on in a game

Yeah pretty much. It’s an unnecesry protection. How many people hurt their hands each year while on the base path? Exactly.

It happens frequently. And considering the amount of strain it is on your fingers to swing a bat, it only takes a minor injury to one of them in order to make batting an incredibly painful thing.

If it’s one then it would be unnecessary. Helmets are not as aesthetically pleasing as hats, but they wear them. Seatbelts are restrictive and how many people get in a wreck every time they drive?

I understand wanting to rant, but we are just making up stupid stuff to complain about if this is where we are with ranting.

Did you see where Tulane's lead off batter messed up his thumb sliding into second base & hasn't played since? Do you want the team to win or to look good?

If you're the defensive team the oven mitt adds a couple inches the the base runners hand. It could make the difference in a close play in favor of the base runner.

Every base runner should wear one just for this reason.

Becoming very common to use in the pros (along with the batting helmet face guard)

Stars such as
Trout
Kris Bryant
Carlos Correa

All injured their hand/thumb sliding and missed significant time and then subsequently had issues with their swing.

That’s why you see guys like Alex bregman wearing the sliding mitt despite never having injury.

As a recent recipient of a broken finger due to a fluke accident on a slide, I disagree with you. I’m basically out of any sport for 2-3 months. It SUCKS.

I broke two fingers on my throwing hand sliding into 3rd in high school. If I could have worn something to prevent it and not had to miss half the season, I would have.

It’s not a popular opinion but it needed to be expressed :/ like I said, I’m not scared of the downvotes

The FACT that you think people NEED to hear YOUR OPINION tells me all I need to know about you. BTW, Gavin Dugas had a nasty finger injury last year from sliding into a base....your opinion is factually incorrect...
