Why would you not take the job it’s a no lose situation. You get a big raise and more resources. If you loose you still get a massive payday and can go get another job a couple of years later.

That makes it seem like you are right - that they can’t win without a superstar coach. But the reality is very different. Bear wrapped up in 1982, and Saban took over after the 2007 season, not 2017. So it was only 25 years in between and they won a national championship during that drought.

And outside of Stallings's brief successful stint (and his one NC), they had a crazy cavalcade of coaches in between. That's the reality that terrifies Bama fans.

This isn't necessarily a point to say that LSU is better in this overall regard. It's just their reality, which is created a bit differently by the expectations of their fanbase.

I love how they basically got hit by the MIB "blinky thing" and had their memory erased post Bear - hiring Saban.

I've been to Bama to watch a game 3 times, and we won all three. They're back to just being a solid team, but they better learn that everyone is mad and wants to hit them in the mouth.

I remember similar talk last season after Bama lost to Vandy and Tennessee just before they came in to Tiger Stadium and prison raped us.

DeBoer was a poor hire.

as a pure blood Purple and Gold fan sense the age of 5 yrs. old (58 Natty) i disagree completely with your statement.

you should be praising DeBoer and pointing out all the positive things he is doing for that program.
Saban had major loses when he started in Gumpville and so forth.

why encourage the gumps to dump their coach.

I don't. And don't get me wrong....his many years are Grand Canyon State and Central Michigan don't mean squat to me. However, he had a 34-6 record at Cincinnati over his 4 years there and at many years at Notre Dame he was 92-39. Compare those at 2 MAJOR football universities to basically 2 years grand total by DeBoer at one...the University of Washington (and nnnnooo Fresno State doesn't count even with a so-so record). Kelly is a proven big time coach....Alabama took a flyer on DeBoer based upon a grand total of 2 years. They're paying for it now. In slightly over 1 year at Alabama, he has ALREADY lost to 4 unranked teams.

CBS ran a story after the Fla St loss which said DeBoer's buyout right now is $63,000,000.

Not a bad golden parachute...

They won 1 in 25 years, but they weren't a great or feared program.

The 4 years before Saban they were 26-23 and 13 -19 in the SEC. Thats how they were trending before Saban arrived.

no telling what Bama would do.

We could have our first CFB HC assassination

Think about it, they wouldn't have to buy him out, life insurance policy instead

I’m not sure about that… I hear they have some of the best dentures money can buy.

Your grammar is proof the state you call home is hardly elitist in education.

yep, and those productive two years were primarily due to an elite QB. Now sure, DeBoer gets credit for luring Penix from Indiana, but this smells like a Curley Hallman - Brett Favre kind of thing.

Hard to believe a major football school would get suckered into giving a guy like that an 8 year, $87 million contract.

But ADs aren't the smartest guys in the world (e.g., Scott Woodward with the Jimbo and McMahon contracts).

The had a rough patch before Saban. But Bama was among the three or four programs in the discussion for best program of all time - and that was before Saban showed up.

Yeah, it happens a lot. Joe Burrow and Ed Orgeron and a more controversial one to some of the Belichick believers, but no one will ever convince me that as a HEAD COACH, Belichick is worth squat. Cleveland Browns 36-44...New England before and after Brady 29-38. And now he WILL FAIL at North Carolina...just watch. I know UNC doesn't have the best talent in FBS but he is supposedly the God of coaching. Funny how coaches get "more credit than they should when they win and more blame when they lose." When DeBoer was hired at Alabama, I was celebrating because I pretty much figured it was a reach.

Mississippi may be the poorest state in the union, although Arkansas may nudge them out!
