From the time Brennan left until the FSU game we heard that Daniels and Nuss were in a battle for the starting job. Opening game Daniels had happy feet with an OL that had serious issues. Since then, the OL has improved, and Daniels looks like he has gotten more comfortable with the passing game.

Nuss didn't play against FSU and tried too hard to win the starting job against Southern and really looked bad. He was sharp against NMS and showed lots of improvements.

LSU is about to start the SEC West gauntlet and a running quarterback's season can come to an end very quickly. There have been a few teams that lost their starting QB's already this season and are down to the 2nd and 3rd string guys and their offenses are struggling.

I feel confident if Daniels went down that Nuss or even Howard would mature quickly. With the talent on offense, and a capable coaching staff, this team would have a decent chance of winning quite a few of the games left on the schedule.

I think the general consensus has drastically shifted after last night’s impressive performance. I’m not seeing anyone saying 9-3, or 8-4 anymore. Definitely no 7-5 predictions. 10-2 is what I’m seeing more and more of and after last night, that seems like a very solid prediction....

After last night? After beating new mexico? Okay. Seems like some purple and gold colored glasses to me. 8-4 team, and thats fine with me

10-2 would be a minor miracle given out remaining schedule.

There are still potentially 6 games left on our schedule that we may not be be favored in. Even if some teams falter a bit more than us, it'll still end up being probably no less than 4.

In my experience, if a team gets down to their third string quarterback, their season is virtually over.

10-2 is wildly optimistic. Probably should temper their expectations. 8-4 feels a lot more achievable with the defense looking competent. But we have quite a few teams ahead of us who have looked better than us up to this point. And if I were betting. 7-5 is where I’d put us.

We did what we were supposed to do, and that was beat one of the absolute worst FBS teams handily.

I do find it encouraging that the defense didn't let up late. I also find it encouraging that we didn't just run clock once we established it was going to be a W. Nuss threw some, maybe they wanted him to get in the work, but I'm glad they didn't just hand off every down once he came in- and that would have secured the W.

I will say the internal focus and discipline made me happy, but let's not go overboard either- New Mexico may be as bad as Hawaii. Vanderbilt beat Hawaii 63-10. Lotta good that did Vandy against Bama.

Using team rankings predictive rankings, which are pretty close to what vegas sets the lines at each week, LSU would be:

-7.5 @ Auburn (line already set)
+1 vs TennerC
-6.5 @ UF
-2 vs Ole Miss
+16 vs Bama
-5 @ Arky
-13 vs UAB
-2.5 @ Aggie

I think the optimism is coming from our defense. They are already looking fierce and still improving. We just held a Mike Leach offense to 16 points and under 300 yards of offense and pretty much shut them down in the 2nd half. New Mexico wasn't the greatest team in the world, but we gave them nothing. If not for one missed coverage they would have finished with 40 yards and 1 first down. It's pretty damned amazing actually. New guys playing in a new system and they are disciplined as frick. Everyone one is doing their jobs and doing their assignment. That D is going to keep us in every damned game.

The offense may not be great, but it's being safe with the ball, taking what's given, and moving the chains. With our D that's a pretty good plan for the offense. Then again, we haven't really opened up the playbook either. I suspect that we won't really know what we have there until we play Tennessee.

The biggest concern in the special teams, but we're seeing corrections made there as well. Hopefully they get the rest of that shite fixed before it costs us a game.

QB’s that stay in the pocket can have their season end very quick too. It’s football injuries happen. Brennan was injured in game three in the pocket.

9-3 would be a huge success considering the abomination of last season.

Nuss still has a ways to go. He didn't take the chances he normally takes probably b/c of the debacle vs SU...it was great to see him develop but if he was the guy would he be able to avoid throwing into 2-3 man coverage? Also we are about to get into the SEC schedule...his 1 half vs NM doesn't give me confidence her would do great vs the SEC.

So you’re confident that our true freshman QB that’s has never thrown a pass in a college game could just come in and rattle off a few SEC wins? Man some of y’all are drinking the kool aid..

You have any data to back up this claim that “running qb’s get injured more”? Please give some examples. Surely Tim Tebow, Cam Newton, Nick Marshall, and Lynn Bowden got injured while being a dual threat qb in the SEC.

Were they running qb’s of just pocket passers? Your comment above made it seem like only running qb’s get injured.

Let's pump the brakes. Still have TAMU, Bama, UF, Tenn, OM, and Arky.

All games we can win (maybe minus Bama) and all games we can lose.

This team is primed to be in a position to win all of those games thought.
