It has been quite some time since our last morning rush, so what better time than now to bring it back? In this edition, we have Athlon Sports’ early 2022 SEC predictions. Of course, these can change at any moment with new information, but we will journey down this path. We also have the not-so-bright superlatives from 2021 to get to as well.
We will start with how the LSU Tigers are “expected” to finish in 2022 according to one media outlet.
Early predictions for the SEC
It is never too early to talk next season right? Well, Athlon Sports put together their predictions for the 2022 season in the SEC. The not-so-great part of this has the LSU Tigers finished fourth, in the West. It is a realistic scenario in which they finish behind Alabama, Texas A&M, and Arkansas in the upcoming season.
Steve Lassan breaks down the offense and as expected the biggest question mark is on the offensive line.
Athlon Sports - The Tigers might be the biggest wild card team in the SEC next year. Brian Kelly is the right hire for the Bayou Bengals, but the roster features several pressing questions. Myles Brennan opted to return to Baton Rouge instead of transferring, which gives LSU a proven quarterback to lean on in ’22. Receiver Kayshon Boutte is back from injury and should push for All-America honors. Restocking the offensive line and finding a more consistent (and productive) ground game is a must.
On defense, it really comes down to that secondary that lost major pieces in 2021. There could be some major growing pains on the backside of this group.
Defensively, the linebacker and cornerback spots top the list of concerns for Kelly and new coordinator Matt House. Talent is never an issue at LSU. But how fast can Kelly fill the voids in his first year?

TTT - I feel the LSU offense will be fine in 22 with experienced skill athletes and QB to go with Kelly's version of rebuilding LSU's Oline already in full swing. I will be excited to finally see LSU's new DC arrive, much of LSU's season will depend on how fast he can find and fit the right pieces on defense.

If we can get Gaye, Baskerville, and some dbs I think we got a chance to compete in every game

For sure, if we’re not able to complete in some games hopefully the run game will be able to step up.

Gaye is returning I thought

We should be favored in 11 games and Bama will be a FG

You're damn right, friend.

We need a strong OL to protect Brennan. I know nothing about most returning next year. It's worrisome.

BOTH players you named are planning on returning as of now.

Kelly is already fixing the o line with these transfers.
I'm worried about cornerback.
They need to bring in another legit outside corner. Jalen kimber would've been nice to have.

Lmao, LSU was a 6 point dog at bama IN 2019!!!
I’d love for lsu to pull off the upset but to claim it will be a fg point spread is absolutely stupid.

Jay Ward is definitely moving back to cb

He really isn't an outside corner.
Need more than that.

He really is. That’s where he started his career dude.
Ward
Gardner
Jones
McGee
Welch
Allen
Brooks
That’s a good number of guys. Probably could use 1 more or so

Brennan has 13 TD passes in 4 years and people down vote you because you said he's not proven.
