Just needs more reps. He has all the tools to be a very good defensive catcher.

His bat is definitely what is going to get him the most playing time but we are going to continue to give him action during the midweek games to give him the reps needed to fine tune those skills defensively.

He has not looked good behind the plate to this point and I think those high draft rankings were based on his bat. Dude has a great swing but he just doesn’t look fundamentally sound blocking or receiving. Maybe he improves in season but that will take a lot of work on his part.

It's going to take some adjusting to this level of pitching. I think ultimately he will be fine. Just may take some spot starts and summer ball to get comfortable.

I agree, it’s obvious to me that he isn’t use to the speed of the game. He is a tad slow reacting to pitch location.

Just rewatched the first 4innings. It was bad all around

-Arrambide dropped or missed 9 balls that either occurred with 0 runners on or weren't far enough away to advance the runners
-There were 3 wild pitches, and I think even Arrambide would say he should have gotten in front of 2 of them
-There were 2 passed balls that allowed runners to score (one immediately and one eventually)
-Top 1 there was a fielding miscue on a pop up foul ball between him and Jones (batter would go on to drive in another run)
-Arrambide missed a delayed steal in the first inning because he looked back at first instead of the runner.

All in all, 11 pitches were missed/dropped by our freshman catcher, 3 wild pitches, and 2 miscues (the delayed steal and the foul ball in the first)---in 4 innings of baseball

A night to forget for sure, but Jay's gotta get these guys in somehow. We won the game, and that's the most important thing, but I think both Arrambide and Jay learned a lot last night.

Honestly, I think they need to put him back out there tonight.

Kind of like when a reliever shits the bed and you want to get him right back out there to help him flush it.

Or, we should give Priester a start and actually let Hernandez have a night off.

That is not true. He was not very good last night.
I guess the foulball pop up on the 1st. Base side that he called and the let drop was on the pitcher as well.
On the 3rd running scored for a passed ball you saw Jay get pissed and turned around and go into the dug out. Arrambie was pulled after that.
Arrambide is the future mTuesday was just a speed bump he will get better

I dont know if he was getting crossed up or just slow at adjusting. He had a terrible night behind the plate.

I dont understand why Priester wouldnt get a shot at this point, why is on the roster really.

We played 3 catchers a bunch last season. Travinski caught like 12 games.

He won’t improve unless he changes his technique. He has his glove the wrong way at times with balls in the dirt in front of him. His blocking technique is really bad. Kneeling he can’t move to catch balls in the dirt on either side . He misses the backhand tries and can’t get out fast enough to get his glove down. Most troublesome was he missed several pitches that looked like strikes. He may need to have his vision checked. He looks like he has a good bat so it would be great if he could improve but I have my doubts. I know he is a freshman but that doesn’t excuse missing strikes. I know all of this is pretty harsh but I really am pulling for the young man to get it corrected. We need him going forward.

Just keep making excuses for the guy. He only had fall ball and spring to adjust to this level of pitching and he still doesn't have it. Bad take by you dummy.

Oh lets wait till summer ball. Homie they don't have time to wait till summer ball lol. If that's the case then redshirt him if its not too late.

I like the kid and believe it was just a bad game. It’s not like it was his first game catching. That HR though

Blame the pitchers that can't throw it over the plate.

He's been dropping balls that hit his glove before they hit dirt. Regardless, part of being a good defensive catcher is blocking balls that aren't perfect, not just catching balls over the plater. Most D1 catchers have no problem with the latter.

He had a rough night, but we hit 4 batters and had 4 wild pitches.

This wasn’t a great pitching performance.

Watching it, it could have been worse too. he would set up down and away and end up jumpy for high fastballs.

I mean shut, Ware couldn’t throw to first either.
