why do people get so worked up over preseason polls?

1. Feelings of disrespect
2. More difficult to jump other undefeated teams. Matters if several are undefeated at the end.

Fine...whatev...no surprise here. Couldn't disagree more with USC as #1 based on the clear best teams last year were LSU and Bama and the depth both have but no surprise for the media USC suck off. On paper, USC has talent no doubt, especially on offense but NO DEPTH...that's what's going to bite them in the arse. You can't recover from scholly sanctions that quickly...

I wanted to go wire to wire, at least we still can in the coaches poll.

i agree for teams like Boise and Houston, etc.

We are in the SEC. If we go undefeated with our schedule we will be in Miami, end of story.

"The 3 spot is a great place to start."

Yeah maybe we can make a last lap pass

If Alabama destroys Michigan in week 1 (very possible) don't be shocked if they are #1 in everything. We moved up last year after WVU.

If LSU only loses one game to Alabama by 3 in OT and USC loses one game to Oregon with their pathetic schedule (say that Oregon loses two other games and USC wins the PAC-12), then it will be Alabama vs. USC in the title game because that is what ESPN wants. We won't get last year's mulligan.

I am starting to hate college football a little bit - at least the biased media component of it. LSU had better take care of business. This poll means there will be no second chances for us. And, we won't have the hard schedule to build up credibility like we did last year.

I agree with this scenario. It gets complicated if we are not undefeated. But I'm confident with our team.

I'm not complaining but hasn't USC had two signifigant injuries on their D-Line? With their lack of depth I'd consider that a huge loss.

"USC won't make it to Miami. Won't get past Oregon twice."

I just realized they are going to have to play them twice, have fun with that CCG Pac-12

LSU #3, sounds perfect

Ask UGA where their preseason #1 NC trophy is

What is the bs about 12 voters. Hanging their minds? This is the first AP poll of the season, right?

"I don't understand why anyone would even care about the AP. It no longer has any value to college football."

Because it's the media and they influence the coaches and the Harris poll voters.

Will they vote again if, for instance, Matt Barkley tears his ACL? Doubt it.

And will they if two more LSU starters are lost to ineligibility?"

Hasn't USC lost half their defensive line that wasn't great to start with? LSU is going to steam roll that arse on both sides of the football. Even if it is a close game late we will be running the ball down your throat like we did UGA.

They craziest part of all of it IMO: not only did Scott Wolf not vote Boise St. #1, he didn't even rank them. I think they should be ranked because of that really good win against Oklahoma a few years ago.
