Only if Neal really hits a wall. But they’ve been managing his workload pretty well.

Absolutely not, he is best as a relief for Neal and late inning defensive replacement.

In a tight game where a passed ball might cost you the game late— I want Milazzo catching innings 8 & 9. Neal can is a defensive liability late. No question!

The strategy that the coaches have said they prefer to this point is to split time in each game to conserve their energy rather than split games. Looks like the staff is married to Neal as #1, but 1a AM they sure aren't at much of a disadvantage with his AB improvement.

This is so far and away the best he's ever hit the ball it isn't even funny.

They completely fixed his bad habit of stepping in the bucket that made him useless hitting anything on the outer half, and while he doesn't have any power he's making consistent contact.

Hell, he's hitting .400 for crying out loud.

I see no problem platooning him and Neal. Neal is a better hitter with a lot more power, but he's not seeing it as well as Millazzo is right now.

That 8th inning homer off Hagen smith pretty much cemented neal in the lineup for the next 2.5 years

Milazzo doesn’t hit that HR but he also doesn’t allow the passed ball run to score either

ETA: Neal is and should be the starter

I think if Neal had been a liability behind the plate then it would be considered. But he’s been great there & you would figure the hitting would continue to improve with more experience.

Neal is the starter to get him 2-3 at bats. If you need a defensive replacement or pinch hitter you have Milazzo. I don’t see them needing to make a change.

Skenes yanked a upper 90 mph fastball. Not many catchers are stopping that passed ball, including Milazzo.

Decided to go find the clip after I posted. I remembered wrong, it was a 90 mph changeup that Neal set up for outside on a LH batter and Skenes bounced it low and in. Still a tough block.

I would question that. Is he as good as Milazzo? No but he is a good catcher, especially for a freshman, and I definitely wouldn’t call him a liability.

Big test for Neal this weekend with the aggressive base stealing of Tennessee.

as much as i will get shite for it, i am always fair and Milazzo has exceeded my expectations as a hitter, but he is still hitting very, very poor quality pitching.

Neal through 6 SEC games has .391 OBP. He is taking really good ABs, has several loud outs despite only hitting .235 and facing a ton of LHP pitching.

He is a great guy to have at the bottom of the order. You have to continue to throw him out there everyday.

I was one who was saying Milazzo would get more playing time than he is based on defensive ability compared to Neal in the preseason. Neal defensively is much better than I expected. I agree with what you are saying here. I think the way Jay is using Neal and Milazzo together is a pretty good mix. Neal has to start each weekend game though IMO.

I think they keep using him the way they have been all year. Neal will be the starter and Milazzo will be a late inning defensive replacement. Neal has been much better than expected defensively, but he’s still not quite on Milazzo’s level yet.

No. Milazzo has played in every game this season and will continue to do so but Neal has been nails offensively and unless he starts to struggle you keep the playing time the same. Neal has been great thus far. But again Milazzo will continue to get playing time. Jay is going to keep both of those guys involved and play who gives us the best chance to win.
