Last nite, Maason Smith had one tackle.
One.
Tied Paris Shand.
Guillory Jefferson each had two.
Smith has seven tackles for the YEAR.
Leading tackler last nite and for the season: Andre Sam.

Smiths fat, slow arse needs to be benched. I can’t remember a more overhyped player and I been watching LSU football for quite a while

I seem to remember Andre Sam being no where near his assignment on the winning TD.

Weeks would be the leading tackler for the season if they fricking played him more.

I seriously don’t think anyone had any good tackles last night

Last night, yes.

For the season, no that is the much-maligned Major Burn.

Also of note, Sage Ryan led the team in TFLs last night with 2. Good for Sage but not a good sign for the D line.

That chart is wild. Mason Smith has 1 more tackle on the year than Womack and Welch. I would love to see how many more snaps Smith has played compared to them as well.

I’m starting to think our defense is not that good

No shite. Looked good against Grambling and MSU (who's putting a square peg in a round hole offensive going away from the Air Raid)

Against FSU Arkansas and Ole Miss combined there are only 2 defensive 2nd half drives that haven't resulted in points against us: FSU's kneel downs and Ole Miss when we batted Dart's pass down on 4th down. That's it. Those are the only times we didn't get scored on in the 2nd half of all of those games. That's fricking sad

Shell of himself or whatever flashes we saw as a freshman.
Maybe he never gets his edge back, it happens.

If you had a tackles per play stat to account for playing time, Weeks would be further up than #4

Maason Smith has CLEARLY lost a step & isn’t anywhere near the force he was in HS or as a College Frosh. Im sure the staff is trying to allow him to play his way into game shape but if he’s still this “Rusty” after 5 games Its just not gonna happen, at least not soon enough this year anyway.

As an aside, I think losing Greg Brooks at Safety, JK Johnson at CB & Smith’s staggering regression has sunk this Defense to the point of no return. So sad to watch LSU waste such Amazing QB play from JD & just the Offense as a whole.

Smith had 3 sacks against McNeese and 19 tackles for the year. The hype on him has never been justified. Maybe he is not fully recovered from his knee injury, but the idea that he was some force in the middle is a myth, he never was.

# 4 celebrating by standing over the receiver in the end zone after an incompletion, but what happened was the poorly thrown ball hit him on the shoulder/neck area all the while he never turned his head back to the ball. Why celebrate when you got lucky.

No. I think Whit Weeks is our best Defensive player right now. I hate to say it, but when Speights got injured we got better. He may not have the size yet, but dang he has a nose for the ball and he gives effort! He had bad plays too, but I can live with it. For wondering why Welch hasn't played I have to say I am even more confused now. He looked better than any other cornerback in my opinion. Stuck to his man, Played aggresive on the short stuff. Has size. There was a play where he got lazy and let his guy by him, but that was just one play.

Generally, I got tired of our defensive players standing around watching the play go by them and either not pursuing, or not gang tackling. Our attitude desperately needs adjustment.

2 FFs and 0 FRs is absolutely absurd through 5 games.
