I think we will be much better defensively this season than in years past with Pastor Green.

We have multiple guys who are proven scorers in the NBA. Zion, Trey, Dejounte, Bey, Poole can all go for 25 on any given night.

I am expecting big leaps from Yves and Fears. Smaller leaps from Queen and Karlo. The strength of this team is athletic, defensive-minded wing players. If we can get consistent, high-level play from our frontcourt and PGs, we will be a handful to deal with. 3 point shooting will also be something to watch. Hopefully someone besides Trey can start banging 3's like they are on a dry spell at a dive bar.

Obviously, the two main X-factors for the Pels this year will be health and fit. I think we see a pretty healthy team this year (idk why). Western Conference is not as loaded as the East for the first time in my life, even though West still has 4-5 contenders.

Imagine if it all comes together this year for the New Orleans Pelicans... 50 win ceiling? 60? 2027 NBA Champions?

47-35 6th seed

Over the last 900 team seasons in the NBA, teams that improve 10+ the following season have a 10% chance of it likely to happen. And the majority of those that improve 10+ games are due to a superstar addition or star rookie.

Pelicans didn't add either, so history suggest they won't improve that much. And considering theyre running it back...

47-35 seems awfully optimistic, but I am hopeful that that the Pels can play around .500 ball. They are essentially running it back in terms of personnel but I think Fears may make a jump this year that would be akin to adding a very good player. The Pels also changed to a defensive minded coach. If the Pels go from godawful to average or (heaven forfend) good on D, you’re going to be in so many more games. Count me in the camp of cautious optimism.

This is the most apathetic I’ve been about the Pelicans in my entire life. And I hate it.

The (2) X-Factors are 3pt shooting and Center.
Missi vs elite Centers could be worrisome, especially paired with 1-7/ 2-8 3pt games from Trey/ Poole. Those 2 things may decide most close games.

I'd feel better about losing games due to health/ injuries vs losing games due to a healthy roster getting exposed.

Still doesn't make sense to have (7) Murray/ Poole/ Mathurin/ Fears/ Herb/ Trey/ Bey rotating 3 spots. That's 20min avg per player and you want atleast 2-3 of those guys playing 25+ min. Meaning (1) of those players is averaging a DNP unless we aren't playing our best players > 20min a game.

Would rather cut the slack now, play Fears 30min a game, and play Trey 30min a game to see if has more 4-8 or 1-8 games.

Very excited for Fears/ Mathurin/ Bey/ Queen/ Missi/ Karlo upside along with seeing who is the best longterm fits between Z/ Trey/ Murray/ Herb.

I don't, and I swore I wouldn't let myself get invested this season, but I'll be there tonight.

Nothing the Pelicans have done in the Zion era has led to anything but apathy and discontent. I have no feelings for this franchise.

So Bennedict Mathurin is a superstar or are the Pelicans not running it back with the same players? I'm confused now

We have a defensive coach with a roster full of negative defenders. We have a "star" forward that is injury prone, undersized, can't shoot, can only drive, and we have surrounded him with 1 positive 3 point shooter. I see nothing good happening with this roster.

Its the Jeremiah Fears Era now.

This comment specifically implies you do indeed feel something for the franchise based on why you don't feel anything for the franchise. You can be excited about Fears, Maturing, etccc and still be indifferent about the Zion era players. Y'all do know that right?

i feel this way every year until we start out 2-8. My only hope this year is that Willie is gone. Mosley wasnt an ideal hire but hes got to at least be an upgrade from Willie

you are such a little bitch bro.

you think running it back is some negative connotation. its not. again, because it comes from you with the mindset of a negative hating bitch.

Mathurin is an extremely valuable addition to an extremely deep roster that we can probably switch through 13 different starting rotations without missing a beat.

With Murray coming back, we have both a healthy roster and a roster that can withstand a few injuries during season unlike many of our previous seasons, combined with a new coaching staff that is probably emphasising much needed defense and continued development of our young roster.

I guess what i'm trying to say is, you are simply a little negative fricking pussy arse bitch with all the meaningless shite you post.

If they can learn how to close games, we actually could see a 10+ game improvement. We were ranked 29th 'Close Games - Winning %' last year (ahead of only Brooklyn). As I've said forever; we have to learn how to play:

DEFENSE!!! DEFENSE!!! DEFENSE!!!

The four preseason games have given me a glimmer hope. They finally looked like a 96' team.

But no, if I'm being honest, i do not. I think we are a bottom 5 team.

I think as long as Zion is a center piece of this team we will never be a playoff team and the sooner we get rid of him the better.

I hope I'm wrong.

Yeah but this only works with good shooting. Planning to run small ball when you know there's a chance Poole/ Herb/ Trey can have a 4-20 combined night is terrifying.
