Any firsthand experience with NIL dealings?

So, it seems like the world can be promised to these kids up front. But, as soon as they ink the papers as to where they are playing, have the goods been delivered, is it metered out and have they actually been paid anything up to this point?
The taxes and handler? fees have to be huge?

Despite what many believe, LSU is not only behind on NIL, we have issues getting big boosters to buy in. Woodward has his work cut out to get this going.

nobody really understands how NIL works. It is rapidly changing and not enough rules. From what I have read, A&M understands it better than everyone.

Not trying to be an arse but serious question. What are you basing this statement on?

I do worry about the tax and legal issues that will come to these players. I know the NFL does some education for it's rookie players about basic business concepts, taxes, etc. Hopefully, these college programs develop something similar to help the players and their families understand what they have to do.

This,
Like all half-arse politically driven ideas it will be years before this is cleaned up and the criminals, A&M, Bama will take full advantage.

Which is why Kelly hired Jordan Arcement. I believe he was the one who was tasked with navigating through NIL at A&M. He’s going to be a huge asset for LSU in regards to NIL. We are just having to play catch up right now

I don't believe this. There is no indication that this is true.

My understanding is that NIl can’t be a part of the recruiting process. Ie schools can’t promise anything.
Kids need to cut their own deals.
Otherwise, the way it’s going to pan out, the large markets have the upper hand. They can offer deals beyond regional stuff like “Ed’s tire shop” or “dots diner” or even a Raising Canes.
Imagine Microsoft, google, Tesla…. Offering deals to kids in cali, Texas, Washington….
The big name kids should be attracted to thaf

If there’s no law there’s no criminals. I think aTm will have some major backlash internally due to players, “checking other players pockets”. The NCAA is a toothless clawless tiger. Get away with what you can while the rules are not clear. Saban will get what he can then insist there is some clear restrictions

They’ll be robbing each other in no time.

Conversations with people that have already done NIL deals with current players.

The kid that used to cut my lawn is now in college on a golf scholarship at a D2 school. He's been positively impacted by being able to offer golf lessons to younger kids by using his own NIL to make flyers, post on social media, etc.
His dad tells me he is also updating his "lawn business" flyers to include his NIL to promote the business to help him find more business.
As I understand it - until now - college athletes were prohibited from doing anything like this to help themselves. But now these kids that are proactive are really helping their own situations.
As an old man, I feel that THIS is the "intended" purpose of the NIL for the smaller schools & divisions.

LSU was way behind in the game but catching up now. A&M was ahead of the country and had 3 professors and 3 lawyers craft their pieces and line up businesses. It was easier to line up businesses for them with state laws and large alumni base in oil and gas money.
We lost Ricks and almost Boutte because of NIL but Gordon came up huge. Part of LSU's problem was they were a little asleep at the wheel and state laws and interpretation. So LSU's donors had to be a little craftier to get it done. It's not like Gordon was allowed to talk to TAF and vice versa to get this going full steam.
LSU will be fine now going forward then just need to find more businesses to step up.

I offered Olivia a deal to make a video. She said she'd have to get back to me.

In my opinion, Gordon has been doing NIL's for ten years at U. High.

quote:I think LSU's problem is we are lacking in people that can bankroll the NIL. Texas and A&M have a bunch of billionaire alums who can blow tons of money on NIL and we don't. LSU's endowment hasn't even cracked a billion and Louisiana is 50th in everything. Our shittiness will bite us in the arse on NIL.
