A reason she was left off of one of the POTY finalist list was because her GPA is lower than a 2.0.

It’s a team game, friend.

There are hundreds of players they have to consider.

I don’t care much about individual awards.

There are really about three. Realistically, there are no others who, by any tangible measure, should even be on the list.

But I've given up on making sense of awards.

How is she playing if she has under 2.0 gpa. Isn't that academic probation?

That kind of GPA with all of the support that the athletes at LSU have in their school work is unacceptable.

I was very happy.
It would have sucked if we didn’t win the national title afterward.

I would not have started an OP about him getting snubbed as I think the final team award is much more satisfying.

LSU said that she is in good academic standing but the other off course requirements are:

Being a full time student making progress toward graduation
A Cumulative 2.00 GPA since enrolling
And then like leaderships tuff

Maybe her transfer fricked il her graduation track.

And exactly 0 of them have the combined number in points and rebounds that she has the season. The amount of 20/20 and 10/10 games has been unmatched in the last 20 seasons of collegiate women’s basketball.

I've seen this rumor constantly thrown around with nothing to back it up.

I found the oldest article I could but's a reputable one, you can google search and find a number of articles on Ben Simmons and why he didn't qualify years ago:

"It’s a weird concept. Now, to qualify for the John R. Wooden Award, a player must have a 2.0 grade-point average throughout his college career, and be making regular progress toward a degree."

She is not below a 2.0 gpa. She would not be able to play in the Tournament. Nor would she be in good academic standing if her GPA fell below a 2.0.

That's what I'm guessing it is. They have to be at a certain percentage of completing their degree coursework at various stages and she might be under that number after the transfer. If so, she wouldn't be 'on track' to graduate.

LINK

quote:

Entering their sophomore year, student-athletes at LSU are required to maintain “at least a 1.8 overall GPA,” according to LSU’s eligibility requirements. That number bumps up to a 1.9 overall GPA prior to the athlete’s fifth semester, and the athlete must have met 40 percent of the requirements to complete their degree.

She is eligible to play with a 1.8 GPA according to LSU standards, a 1.8 GPA is not quite the 2.0 GPA that the Wooden Award requires but pretty close.

Hope that helps clear it up.
