The issue to me is not that he started but that he didn't get pulled when he should have. PM seems to have a problem reading his guys and stopping the bleeding.

All of our big 3 coaches lack in-game instincts.

That's usually how you get into the loser's bracket..by not winning.

No it wasn't.. CPM didn't learn anything after his last trip on 2013. He made the exact same move then and pitchdd Cody Glenn in game one. How did that work out for us?

He pitched Aaron Nola in Game 1 against UCLA. It was Nola's only loss of the season.

You mean the 2 throwing errors, 2 walks, HBP wasn't enough for Mainieri to see the train coming off the rails?

Clearly Lange is our best pitcher. Bad choice in the first game of the CwS.

Starting Poche was a good decision.

Exactly right.

Folks, think for a second.

Q: If Lange pitches like an ace for the win today while Poche shits all over himself defensively in the winners' bracket Tuesday, where does that leave LSU?

A: In the exact same fricking position as they will be in if Lange kicks arse Tuesday afternoon.

Don't bring facts into this argument!!! It's CPM's fault we scored 3 runs and had 4 errors.

LSU is in the exact same position it would have been in with a loss in game 2.

Best pitcher on the team sitting on the bench. Clearly, it was the wrong decision.

This says it all.

There are people who think the end result defines the correctness of the decision. ctiger69 is one of them.

It didn't matter which one pitched today. Poche started off great. What matters is, Mainieri not recognizing when his pitcher is falling apart. That's the bottom line. Mentally, Poche was done, but he still left him in there.

In my humble opinion, the maturity and consistency of this pitching staff has been a liability all season.

LSU doesn't have the hitting or the pitching necessary to win the CWS this year.

Or Lange pitches a shutout win and LSU is one game away from the bracket finals, giving Poche another day to rest and possibly settle in to the atmosphere. Maybe poche fricks up like today, maybe he doesnt. But as of right now we'd probably be sitting much prettier had we pitched our ace.

Not the worst possible position. We could be in the losers bracket with Poche to pitch on Tuesday.

The fact of the matter is, our best chance at beating Vandy in game 2 is to throw Lange against them, and PM probably felt that with the way Poche and Lange were throwing in their last two outings, both probably give you about the same shot at beating TCU. It was a good decision, but it didn't work. Poche blew up. It happens. Contrary to popular belief, the goal is not to avoid going 0-2. The goal is to win the damn thing, and the best way to do that is to win the first 2. Throwing Poche and then Lange gives you the best shot to win the first 2.

That would make sense except for the fact he had mowed down TCU already for 3 innings. He was clearly settled into the game...then the derps happened and broke him.

And the pressure was always going to be on LSU to win the first two games because of lack of starting pitching depth, so the pressure would have been no different for Poche on Tuesday.

How can people not see that the most important win in this damn tournament is game 1.

You'd swear we've never done this before....shite.
