Was helping a client at work who is from upper state New York and is now attending UNO. He said he became an Alabama fan in 2012. Neither he nor his family ever lived or attended school there. *rolls eyes*

Miami, Notre Dame, USC and UNLV basketball are different. They draw fans nationwide. Again most have never been to college.

Ohio State has a national fan base as well

Who cares? No one.

And I am an Oakland Raiders fan...have been since Tom Flores was quarterback and Billy Cannon was a fullback. Watching a game with my dad one day and just decided they were my NFL team, mostly cause of Billy, but have been a fan through bad and good. I don't hide my caps and shirts during a down year. Also, because we had no local NFL team at that time, I was free to roam. Makes sense?

I run into people in Georgia wearing LSU shirts and when I talk to them I find they have no connection.
Stupid fools.

At least Louisiana borders Mississippi and actually most LSU fans in Mississippi do in fact have Louisiana ties/connections.

. I’m pretty much on the stance if you didn’t attend one college class there your pretty much a bandwagon fan too. But that would make a lot of fans bandwago

So, should LSU turn down money from people that do not live in Louisiana? Perhaps there should be a requirement by TAF that you can only donate if you went to LSU?

Ok wait a sec...

I'm an LSU fan. I just kinda always have been ever since I first saw them on TV in the early 80s when I was growing up in Southern California. And then around 2000 I took my first trip to south Louisiana and subsequently spent a fair amount of time in Louisiana pre- and post-Katrina mostly for work purposes. After exposure to the culture, fanfare and food, I figured out absolutely why I had been a fan all that time.

I now live in central Oklahoma and have not attended a school in Louisiana in my life. Nor do I know any players or staff, or have any family there.

My closest connection to LSU is that I met and spoke with Les Miles several times while he was still coach at OkSt.

So am I a bandwagon fan too? I might live in Oklahoma but I detest OU with the burning fire of 10,000 suns. And OU fans call me stupid for supporting an out of state team that I have no actual connection to. And I've stood up against countless throngs of them since I moved here in the late 80s... most memorably around the time of the January, 2004 BCSNCG. The hate from them has toned down slightly but I still get it fairly often.

I'm no g@ddamn bandwagon fan. And I still have no actual connection to the team I support. So if I'm not a true fan because of not having lived there or not having family/friends directly connected to the university, what am I? What say you?

Well said. You're smart a reasons. I teach Junior High and high school and have all sorts of students come to school bragging about their team Alabama despite me working in the Baton Rouge area..... it always makes me scream "oh yeah what's the capital?" of Bama.......

I've asked him I've asked them to explain and their explanation really isn't that bad........ ever since they can remember they've been kicking LSU's and everyone else's arse

This is most certain because we know there are no Walmart’s in Louisiana. Right?

When you see a sidewalk bama fan, stick your finger in "dey booty".

It is perfectly OK to be an LSU fan with zero connection to the state or school. Some people embrace the Cajun culture of good food, hard work and laissez les bon temps rouler and they want to be a part of it. However. I've been there, believe me, Alabama has no culture to embrace.

Too too many, too annoying. Like the random old lady receptionist at my eye doctor...in Nashville...who did not go to college and whose husband is a die hard UT fan. She said she just picked Alabama because she likes Nick Saban. So clearly a lifelong fan since she's over 60. She wears the damn shirts and everything.

If you are from bama or live there though, that's ok. It's going to happen. Tons of people didn't go to college or went to Mercer or some school that isn't worth caring about. College football is the best, so pick a team if you don't have one. You suck if you pick bama and aren't from there though.

There was a head coach between Shula and Saban(interim). Can you name him?
