in spite of 18 million dollars spent (Hallcy and Delane not withstanding) I find it almost comical that LSU is considering missing the Dec portal window just so they can try to get a coach that has made the playoffs.
The mentality that says all the best coaches are in the playoffs, is, imo, just how shallow the thinking is a it relates to a new coach charateristics.
All I can say is that Saban was no where near a playoff coach when LSU hired him and he was the best hire ever at LSU. I hope these guys come to their senses and just hire the most talented and innovative, not the one that has had the best players this past year. That is just such lazy thinking.

its not about getting a coach in the playoff . Its about getting the right coach and that coach could be in the playoff

Les Miles was our best hire ever. By all of the metrics. But I understand your point.

I want somebody who can lead. I want someone who can recruit students and parents to commit to LSU. I don't care about the previous playoff wins and appearances or whatever else. Just give me someone who wants to go all in for the Tigers and embrace us, so that we can embrace them!

Saban had MSU AP ranked 7th at end of his final season there when we hired him. He would have been in the playoffs.

I care more about sustained success than just worrying about next year. We've won NCs before. Time to go for a dynasty.

With that said, hire the best coach. Idc if he's in the playoffs or not. The best find probably isn't in the playoffs but that'll take an actual search by our AD which I don't have faith in them to do.
On another note

This is not true. Most of our class were hits except for Thompson Sharp and Anderson. The rest of the offensive guys aren't being used properly

I swear y'all act like "finding the most talented" coach is just as easy as looking up yelp reviews. Coaching hires are exponentially more complicated than that with tons of variables.

The roster was advertised as the best ever. It didn’t come close.

disagree.....LSU makes it much more complicated than it needs to be because they look at one metric......did they make the playoffs. And LSU is willing apparently to forego the Dec portal, even when LSU needs major help at lots of positions next year, so we can get a coach that had the best players this past year.....just Hallman approach all over again.

With even above average QB play, people would be praising this class.

Yeah we know. We read your OP.

Who said that was the only metric? They said they would wait for the right guy if he was in the playoffs, not that the right guy "must" be a playoff coach.

They're willing to have a rougher 2026 if it means getting the right coach in place for a decade which I think it prudent.

The Hallman era had NIL and portal windows?

You're oversimplifying a process that, by nature, is far from a sure thing. If hiring a coach is just as easy as "picking the most talented guy" why have major programs had so many misses? Is it. possibe that reality is not as easy as CFB 26 Dynasty mode?

I think Golden is as much of a get as both of them. All you need to do is watch the games he was hurt and how teams ran the ball up the middle and down our throats.
The defense needed him and Weeks. End of story. That’s why Bama didn’t run the ball so well is because he was back and healthy. They lost one lineman and Moore was MUCH BETTER than anyone else on the line.
Don’t be that stupid about “all these busts” when that is simply not true.

By who? If you believed that then that's your own fault.

Even the very best rosters in 2025 can't compare to the depth of talent stacked on rosters 10-20 years ago

Make no mistake, this is a good roster. They'e pretty much only been blown out once and that was when the wheels fell off. This is a plenty talented enough roster to be good but it was paired with awful coaching this year. You can't tell me that a good offensive line coach couldn't get productivity out of the bodies we have in that room and a good OC couldn't scheme some stuff up. We're not as talent deficient as people think and that's even MORE of an indictment on Kelly and Co than anything. You have no excuse to be this bad offensively.

Bust?

The vast majority of our best players this year are all portal auditions.

Wtf are you talking about?

Sharp is a bust. Can’t block and less of a passing threat than guys we had.

Defensive line transfers (interior and edge) have not performed to expected level.

Only WR that didn’t bust is Brown.

Haulcy, Delane, Moore, and Brown are the only difference makers we got.
