ADDIS — A Homecoming tradition turned violent Tuesday night when gunfire erupted as a result of teens vandalizing homes with toilet paper, Addis Police said. The homeowner, Josiah Arrington, is now behind bars, charged with aggravated assault with a firearm.

A man at Riverboat Trailer Park on La. 1 fired at a vehicle that was leaving out from the area. The students are accused of TP’ing the wrong home, thinking it belonged to one of their classmates, Addis PD says.

Arrington allegedly fired a single shot at the SUV belonging to a family member of one of the students. No one was injured, but the incident left a bullet hole in a Ford Escape.

Addis Police were investigating two scenes Tuesday night – one at the trailer park and one near Belle Vale and Poplar Grove drives. One was where the shooting took place and another was where the students went to after leaving the scene.

Gonzales Police Chief Sherman Jackson had to warn Ascension students pulling pranks ahead of the St. Amant – East Ascension game last month that property damage and other criminal behavior would be punished by the justice system. Spray-painting on houses, paintball gun shootouts and mailbox damage were reported there. Jackson said several students were arrested or got summonses as a result.

Addis Police issued guidance earlier Tuesday for students and parents warning them about what behavior is criminal.

“The use of toilet paper alone does not automatically constitute a crime,” the Addis safety advisory said. It warned that going onto private property, damaging property with eggs, paint, food or other substances and tampering with other people’s things can land teens in hot water.

“A tradition should not become a criminal record,” the advisory said.

Straight to jail.

It's an annoying but harmless prank. No reasonable person would feel threatened and it isn't even something that leaves a large repair bill.

I do not say I agree with his actions, but with 2 teenagers at home and after the 3rd time our house was rolled in 3 weeks, I understand his actions.

You mean to tell me I can't shoot at pesky teenagers in my trailer park anymore? Sorry I thought this was America!

So was the trailer park shooter from LA or Tuscaloosa?

Doesn't seem very red-stick for just rolling a yard.

I don't. Is it really worth a kid's life to keep some toilet paper out of your yard?

Yeah rolling a house is a retarded tradition and it'd annoy the piss out of me but I'm not going to kill somebody over it.

Could you imagine having to live with the guilt of killing a teenager over toilet paper

My neighbor has had their house rolled 3 years straight.

All that crap blows from their yard into mine. Last year it rained so it was a nightmare.

Hell with them kids. I understand the sentiment to shoot at them- would I do it? Probably not. It’s a pain in the butt.

Throwing that crap all over the yard, tearing it into little pieces. F them kids.

We have one teenager and got rolled three times in one week. Not once was it not funny. I'll give it to some of them...one night, they got us while I was in the backyard drinking beer and watching football.

Are you volunteering to pick up the toilet paper afterwards?

So trespassing onto private property is not a crime?
